Guitar Hero first game to make $1bn

Legends of Rock reaches milestone with DLC
Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock has become the first single game ever to surpass $1 billion in sales, Activision has claimed.

The music game, which launched on practically every current platform in late 2007, reached the milestone with help from Xbox Live and PSN music download sales, said Activision Publishing CEO Mike Griffith.

Sales for artists appearing on Guitar Hero have risen 15 percent according to Nielsen data, said Griffith.

Downloads for all Guitar Hero games now stand at 21 million, he added and over 141,000 user-generated songs have been posted via Guitar Hero: World Tour. We bet two thirds of them are rubbish.

Considering the price of a standard Guitar Hero pack it's no surprise that Acti-Blizz has made a bundle on the game, but we wonder how well it'd stand up to GTA IV if it was flogging for £39.99?

Actually it was being flogged for £35 on 360 and PS3 down at HMV for the last few weeks.

That was with the guitar bundle.

Dunno if they have stopped doing that now tho.

What about the billions Warcraft has made? Or are they counting the expansions as separate games?

Still, it's very impressive. That's more than Spiderman 3 has made worldwide in it's lifetime, to put it into perspective.

I'm not sure that's entirely true. There are handful of other games which I've read about that have past that mark. Either way not exactly saying alot about videogames when one of the best selling titles is a repetitive rhythm music game using a cheap plastic guitar.

Ready for it?....Ka-CHING!

maybe they should funnel that money into getting some decent DLC for world tour and making the previous DLC compatible with it. Rock band has nearly 400 songs for download and they're all playable on RB2.

yeah i was thinking of getting that to get a second guitar then i seen that they were doing the rock band bundle for £94 and got that instead. after taking it home and setting everything up to have a jam session i finally realized that the bundle comes sans game. not a happy chappy after that but a quick look on ebay and managed to get one for £15.
