In an attempt to put to bed rumours that the title has been axed, publisher LucasArts has said that new details about its elusive next-gen Indiana Jones game are forthcoming.
"LucasArts remains absolutely committed to the Indiana Jones franchise. While we are aware that fans have been eagerly awaiting additional information on the upcoming game, they can rest assured that details are forthcoming," a rep told Joystiq.
The comment came after IGN claimed to have been informed by "multiple sources" that the PS3 and 360 game, originally demonstrated at E3 in 2006 but a no-show ever since, had been axed.
The mystery has thickened a little bit though, because French site LiveWii is claiming to have got its hands on part of Activision's release schedule for 2009.
The publisher, which handles distribution for LucasArts on this side of the pond, is reportedly planning to launch Indiana Jones and the Sceptre of the Kings for Wii in June.
We've left a message with Activision over here and LucasArts in the States, so maybe we'll get something interesting back, but probably not.
The last we really heard of the the game was when a few environment screenshots leaked onto the net late last year.
Wow, I remember this from the 2005 or 2006 E3 when they claimed they wouldn't return to the adventure games for a decade because they were coming up with new and original things. Like a bunch of Star Wars games, and then 2 other games, one of which got cancelled. It's Lucas Arts, which pretty much means this game isn't going to do that well at the reviews, but will sell loads anyway because they're milking their franchise.
I'm a bit more optimistic about this...i read recently that they've recruited a group of top-notch programmers/designers, so hopefully this will bode well for their next few releases.
I'd actually like to comment that when you read what the Lucas Arts guy said about Indiana Jones, it actually just says there will be an Indiana Jones game. It actually leaves it open to question about whether the game in question has been cancelled.
I'd also like to note what was said not too long before the cancellation of the Lucas Arts Full Throttle sequel. " want to disappoint the many fans of Full Throttle, and hope everyone can understand how committed are to delivering the best-quality gaming experience that possibly can."
