Design firm Grid/plane has released fascinating prototype images of what became the New Xbox Experience. Here's what your 360 dashboard could've looked like...
"Gridplane spent a few months working with Microsoft's XBOX 360 group developing concepts for the latest graphical user interface for the XBOX 360 console," the company reveals on its website.
"The time was spent exploring many ways that a new menu system could allow users to browse and navigate game libraries, music, movies and TV shows. Oh, and play games too.
"These examples represent one of many concepts that we worked on. We are happy to have contributed to the evolution of the Xbox console UI."
As you can see the old design looks even simpler than the current NXE we ended up with. It's also very, very pale. We like it, even if it does look a bit similar to the old dashboard blades in places.
Apparently the firm also dreamt up "an immersive 3D environment for users to explore the latest games, events and online activity within the Xbox Live community". Hmmm, why does that sound familiar?
If it had looked like this and this story was showing us the one we got as a prototype most people would have wanted it. Always wanting what you don't have. Oddly enough on the NXE I hardly ever browse around and look at stuff. Not sure why but I used to with the old blade system pretty often. I wonder if it is just me or if MS has noticed many people not browsing/buying.
I like the 2 or 3rd post 'xbox sucks ps3 rools!' um...why bother posting such nonsense? In fact MS should have ripped of the PS3 XMB and used that so the sony fanboys could call us all xbot sony fanbots xflopthrees**tty or xfail360 rools with sony XMB, cos sony is da best, pity they aint selling consoles this gen and in deep financial stum...well MS are laying off too but sony are doing the huge layoffs to support PS3 heheeheh I feel sorry for the workers, all for a piece of technology, a games console, oh I got a ps2, a psp, a xrfail360, a wii, a NDS, but no ps3 atm, want the price to drop...and only 1 game I want MGS4..shame this gen sony ae going nowhere but the loyal fanboys call us xbots etc etc vroom vroom!

Actually they have some good news stories in streaming video on the NXE, well worth the look, worth poking around the NXE, I mean us xbots should do it as a console. I bought my psp, it has the same interface as the PS3? Weird, well, I guess thats the xfail360 for u, but the NXE is cool...hard choices to make in the end I think..

That one does look like it could of been better than the current NXE, and I'm not just saying that because I don't have it. And yeah it's a bit white but that's the whole point of themes; at least with that you would of been able to see the backgrounds better.
It does look cool better than the ps3's Xmedia bar. As for the ps3 rules well i have to say no it don't boy.
I've both the playstaion and xbox and for me the xbox 360 is better only on LIVE.
I tell all me mates that if the playstion had live instead of the ps network it'd rule the world. The playstion on COD:WAW has severe problems when 100K or more are logged on to it. But when playing it on the xbox you can have upto 300K online without any problems at all.

Well generally Gamer is used for people who care about games and fanboy is used for those that care more about the brand. There are a lot of people on these forums who don't seem to care one bit for the games but seem willing to give their lives for the brand.
