360 HDMI audio patch today

NXE sound issues finally ironed out
Microsoft has squashed the bugs causing sound issues through a HDMI cable on 360, and will be releasing a mandatory update today.

As of 10am today, logging into Xbox Live will prompt you to update your 360 dashboard, which "addresses the issue that a few folks were having with audio and their HDMI connection" since NXE was released, according to Major Nelson.

No other changes are reported.

I started using HDMI after the NXE update, and I haven't noticed any audio problems.

Hmmmmmmm....nope, can't say I've noticed anything either. Maybe it was just something that affected certain games?

I'm using HDMI but with audio via optical to a separate receiver so... I guess I'll be downloading a patch I don't need next time I turn on the 'box. Rolling Eyes

could be worse. at least the patch'll only take a few seconds to download. if it were the PS3 it'd take about 5 mins

Could be just me but... every time I moved through my list of friends etc. the little click sound would either disappear or sound really weak or sound really loud! Probably got nothing to do with anything but it's the only thing I've noticed since moving to an HDMI elite.

its when you install a game to the HDD i think.

done it with PGR4 and it constantly crackles. makes it really unbearable to play.

sound was fine on the dashboard etc.

I've had exactly the same problem when i play pgr4 as well, i was putting this down to the HDD install also, here's hoping this does the trick.

Sure, it's not a major inconvenience or anything, but I'm wary of installing patches/etc that I don't need.

For example, if a BIOS update came out for your motherboard that fixed an incompatibility with S3 graphics cards, but you were running an Nvidea board perfectly happily, would you install it?

I know from being a PC user (as we all are) that patches and updates can introduce new bugs and problems. Unless it fixes an issue you're having or likely to have, or it's an incremental update that needs to be installed, then I leave well alone.

Question

That's weird, I thought you couldn't hear the game noises due to the 'deafening' noise coming from the Xbox fan?
_Marty_ on 3 Feb '09
Xbox fans can get a bit vocal at times but generally when in gaming mode we concentrate on the game at hand (Loving the DLC for Fallout 3 on the 360 BTW... you are missing out on a treat) =]

See what I did there?

Hilarious. Rolling Eyes

Anyway, the fan barely makes a sound after installing to the HDD, because it doesn't need to work as hard as it does when accessing game discs.

So why don't you keep your mouth shut about things you clearly don't even know anything about?

Well the update hasnt helped the problems for me, downloaded the new Halo Wars video went to play it and no sound what-so-ever Rolling Eyes

I get an annoying hissing noise from my tv speakers when using my 360 and ps3 with a hdmi cable attached to the tv. Hopefully this will sort it out for my 360.

Isn't it the DVD drive?
When making that noise, my 360 doesn't chuck out any more air than usual Confused

Since installing this update the visuals have become insanely crap. Everything seems darker, and lines, curves are jagged. Text seems more pixelated.

Anybody else noticed this?
ewiepoo on 3 Feb '09
Looks like I was right to be cautious about this "mandatory" update.

http://www.reghardware.co.uk/2009/02/06/nxe_patch_rrod/

Apparently it's triggering the RROD for a lot of people. I was skeptical at first, thinking it could just be a coincidence, but after reading a few of the various forum threads I think I'll play offline until things are sorted out.

Has anyone had this update yet? Any problems?
