Indiana Jones Wii: First shots/details

"Completely interactive" environments and unlockable retro game
LucasArts has released the first screenshots and details on long, long coming Indiana Jones game, Indiana Jones and the Staff of Kings.

Apparently the WII and PSP game (still no sign of the next-gen version) will feature "completely interactive environments" where players can use scenery as a weapon in order to dispense of foes in "clever and unexpected" ways. Sounds a bit Bourne to us.

LucasArts also promises "thrilling action sequences" that remain true to the spirit established in scenes such as Indy's pursuit of the motorcade in Raiders of the Lost Ark, the mine-cart scene in Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom, and the free-for-all aboard the tank in Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade.

Excitingly 1992 classic Indy graphical adventure game Fate of Atlantis is also promised as an unlockable. It's looking quite good then. Now can we have the PS3 and 360 versions, please?

Full game info list follows...

  • Wield your Wii Remote like Indy's signature whip for a variety of uses - from combat to navigation to puzzle-solving.
  • Use your highly interactive Hot Set environments and your wits to defeat your enemies.
  • Explore exotic locations around the globe in an all-new story that puts you on an epic quest for the Staff of Moses.
  • Apply your smarts to navigate Indy through challenging terrains with the many maneuvers Indy can do with his whip.
  • Engage in burst gunplay moments and use careful aim and the environment to take out enemies.
  • Face overwhelming odds and escape signature run-for-your-life moments, like a daring escape from a collapsing temple, by matching fast-paced onscreen gesture prompts.
  • Experience thrilling chases and control vehicles - fly a biplane in a canyon trench, take the reigns of a wild elephant through the streets of Istanbul and navigate a raft down a raging river.
  • Cooperative gameplay mode allows you and a friend to brave the challenges in a variety of game modes in an entirely new quest with a familiar character never playable before in an Indy game.
  • Unlock four-player versus mode where you and your friends go head-to-head in a real biplane combat or take on three of your friends in a free for all tank battle!
  • Whether you are brawling baddies or wielding your whip, use the Wii Remote and Nunchuk as nature intended with the intuitive gesture-based combat system.
  • Discover more than 20 artifacts and rewarding unlockables throughout the game.
  • For those old-school gamers there is nothing better than unlocking the classic Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis game!
  • On the Nintendo DS, use the stylus as the whip to swing over pits, brawl with enemies and to explore the world.
  • The PSP (PlayStationPortable) system version features six robust types of burst gameplay including combat and physics challenges, puzzles and the trademark Indiana Jones chase sequences.

My god that looks awful.

THE WII IS NOT A f**king PS2!

It's a gamecube. Laughing But even that is capable of better graphics than this.

You're right, that just looks BAD.

I'm actually slightly offended by how dog-ugly those graphics are.
altitude2k on 3 Feb '09
I'm sure if this was on the dreamcast, visually the game would be below par.
y2jimbob_2001 on 3 Feb '09
I don't think it looks bad at all. In fact its probably the first game for the Wii that interests me. I would consider buying a Wii if this game lives up to its potential.
voodoo341 on 3 Feb '09
I don't think it's that bad, but it doesn't smack of the latest and greatest console graphics. Nevermind cutting edge PC standards...Could be a fun game though and that's just as important as a pleasing aesthetics in my opinion.
The_KFD_Case on 3 Feb '09
It does look pre- or maybe early-PS2, there's no denying it.

The idea of "fully interactive" is probably not quite true either, but I'd accept a slight drop in graphic quality for a bit of a more lively world.
Dajmin on 3 Feb '09
Please tell me those are PSP screens.
palancas7 on 3 Feb '09
it may not be a PS2, but the PSP pretty much is, and it's very unlikely that they're making seperate models for each. that's the price of cross platform development.
and if you wanted pretty graphics you should have bought a PS3 or 360, or a PC.
BOYD1981 on 3 Feb '09
Some of the backgrounds look ok but the characters look very poor. Please put a bit more effort in lucas arts, I know it is all about the gameplay, but if they are as lazy as this on the graphics then I do not hold out much hope for good gameplay. The only positive is that it comes with a copy of fate of atlantis(which I loved).

Also CVG I am sure that they will have a job developing for next gen consoles when the they have not even developed dev packs yet. PS4, the next xbox and the next nintendo console are a while off yet.

And one other thing CVG. The wii is as much a current gen console as the ps3 and 360. Graphical power is not the only thing that makes a generational jump (You are getting as bad as the PS3 and 360 fanboys!).

Havent seen a decent game on the wii for ages.

I think they must have got the platform wrong, its an iPhone game right?
dannybuoy on 3 Feb '09
psp port ahoy!!!

nice to see a 3rd party completely going against the grain and releasing a built from the ground up wii game designed to take full advantage of the hardware.

thanks high voltage Very Happy

lucasarts can f*ck themselves if they think i'm parting with money for this sh*t.

oh well, next 3rd party dud please....
ste hicky on 3 Feb '09
If doesn't have coop then I'm not interested.
voodoo341 on 3 Feb '09
Hopefully the game will look better in action. However its also on the PSP. Hopefully these are shots of that an not the wii version.. If they merely made one graphical version for both the PSP and wii i'll be disappointed.

Gameplaywise this sounds fun and Having the Fate of Atlantis bundled with it makes the deal even more sweeter.

One to watch me thinks.

No, the price of shoddy development & failing to make decent assets for the Wii is not one I pay, but one LucasArts will pay in terms of lost sales.

It does. Haven't you reqad about the new annoying side kicks system. player 2 can be indy's gereatric father, screaching wife ot an annoying chinese kid.
WHERESMYMONKEY on 3 Feb '09
WTH Confused Who cares about Indiana Jones?

C'mon LucasArts, give me new Star Wars. Rogue Squadron 4 or Jedi Knight 3, any one of the two would suffice.

you'd best fire up the 360 and give it a whirl then.

tell us if its any good. Don't worry it won't make the nasty whiring noises the dvd drive won't be used.
WHERESMYMONKEY on 3 Feb '09
Ok, just found out these shots are from the DS version. That puts a completely new spin on things.

I thought the graphics were too poor for a Wii game! Can't wait to see some 360/ps3 shots.....

So you wont be buying KZ2 then that is shockingly without co-op too.

I'd rather it be nearer in capabilities to the GameCube than the PS2, given that the GameCube was a more powerful console. I'm surprised you didn't know that.

Try comparing both versions of Resident Evil 4 if you don't believe me.
carterlink on 3 Feb '09
Glad I'm not the only one offended by that part of the article. As has been pointed out, graphics are not the sole factor which determines what generation a console belongs too. The motion control technology is the technical advancement that Nintendo focused on this time out. It's the same generation as PS3 and 360, regardless of whether the graphics are as snazzy or not. So correct the article!

Anyway, the fact that LucasArts are finally releasing one of their awesome point and click adventures on the Wii - even in such a roundabout way - is enough of a reason to buy this...

I didn't think it was too bad until I enlarged the screenshot and cut myself on the jagged edges...

FATE OF ATLANTIS people.........
Man I loved that game. Stop whining about the graphics. Graphics do not a good game make. They help granted but I would much rather the game was fun.
Its like saying the new mummy film is good because it looks pretty on Blu-Ray. The Wii is NEVER gonna compete on graphics so why bother wasting time and effort tarting them up and forgetting the gameplay

PS FATE OF ATLANTIS!!!!!!!

Black Mantis on 3 Feb '09
For all the people saying "Graphics don't make a game, gameplay does", well that is good and all but making it look like a 10 year old title just screams laziness. The Wii isn't all that weak and yet people continue to not even push the envelope graphically. Graphics can add to gameplay as much as any good mechanic can. I make games, I should know.
mrsatan on 3 Feb '09
Just to reiterate what I said on the page before - these are the DS shots, not the Wii. Found that out from EG.
