Amazon Game Downloads launched

Amazon.com's jumped on the digital distribution bandwagon with the launch of Amazon Game Downloads.

The service's beta kicked off on Tuesday, offering more than 600 casual titles for under $10 each.

Full versions of Jewel Quest 2, Build-a-lot and The Scruffs are being offered as free downloads during the launch week.

Greg Hart, vice president of video games and software at Amazon, told Joystiq that the service does require you to download a client, but that the 3MB application isn't invasive.

He refused to be drawn on whether Amazon will offer bigger, less casual titles via the platform in the future.

I'm not quites sure why they are bothering. Does averyone really want hundreds of download clients on their PCs? I'm happy with Steam.
