Coronation Street on DS - no joke

Rovers Return set for gaming debut on DS - but probably not as an FPS
Publisher Mindscape is to release a DS game based on erm, Coronation Street.

Unfortunately, instead of our brilliant concepts which involve the quick-time events, the T-Virus and a Ken Barlow Half-Life spin-off called 'Half-Pint', the game's said to be "an adventure and task based concept set within the theme of the famous fictional street".

It doesn't sound nearly as fun as a dystopian alien faction moving in on the Rovers Return, then.

"Coronation Street is a national institution and was watched by over 78 per cent of the UK television population in 2008," said ITV Global Entertainment's Aysha Kidwai.

"We receive thousands of fan letters enquiring about the series every month. We're responding to this huge demand by developing a range of exciting and innovative family targeted products inspired by the show."

The outfit's previously released (rubbish) games based Deal or No Deal, Golden Balls and Ready Steady Cook, so it's probably going to be nowhere near as good as the Eastenders Well-Hard game. Not that we're soap opera fanboys, or anything...

Thanks, CasualGaming.biz.

It's news stories like this that make me question why i'm a gamer Sad

Thank god my new 360 is coming soon to remind me.

Oh and what happened to the Nintendo seal of quality?
As much as I love Nintendo i cant help but feel they're going down the same greedy road as they did in the early 90's

I agree, but at the end of the day, they are a business and business has to make money. Im sure this will sell well, people are suckered into buying crappy movie games, so its likely this will be a 'hit', then again, no other details have been said (Screenshots etc) so we shouldnt pass judgement till there is something of it to see.

You never know they may get the Eastenders licence and make it like Marvel vs Capcom. Laughing

The recession does bad things to game developers.....

Next thing, they'll come up with a Soap's Smash Bros. called:

"Not-So-Super Smash Soaps Pub Brawl!"

You guys are going on like Nintendo are making this, they're just allwoing it on their system, they're not telling developers to make these type of games or else.

it was only a matter of time until they started with the soaps. in the past, there has been a Friends Trivia game, which is actually quite good but not the best

little britain game. I'm a fan of little britain, and have the game. suppose its ok, but the controls are slow and frustrating

buffy the vampire slayer and Chaos Bleeds, suppose are good, if only sarah michelle gellar had given her voice to the character.

Robot Wars Arena of Destruction, which i haven't played in a long time, but is a enjoyable game for people who are fans of the series and want more.

so its probably time that the character of the soaps get digitally recreated, in some plan to get more people how watch the soaps, playing the game.

aslong as it doesn't effect the proper games like Gears of war or any other proper descent game, i say let them have there fun and games.

I reckon either a murder mystery or a leisure suit larry game where you go around sowing wild oats.

Who ever said a 'Corrie vs Enders' fighting game deserves a medal.

I cannot stand c**tination Street, I hate that whiny tune at the beginning and all the northern accents, the boring plots or the bloody setting of the soap!
