Ubisoft Montreal has told us that the upcoming Prince of Persia DLC is not integral to the story set out in the first game.
Following some criticism about the game's ending on our forums, we put it to the DLC's associate producer, Jamal Rguigui, that some gamers weren't happy with the idea of paying extra just to get to the game's 'true ending'.
"Prince of Persia is a complete game and the ending is definitely the one we had in mind, literally, from day one," he said.
"The Prince of Persia Epilogue is a special added bonus that goes on to illustrate events in the characters' lives following the closure of the game. In fact, that's basically the definition of an epilogue - it's a passage that is not integral to the story but that gives an insight into the future of the characters.
"The creative team behind Prince of Persia developed a story that they hoped would make players reflect upon the adventure that they had lived and why the story unfolded as it did. Sometimes, wrapping up all of the mysteries of a story is not the best way to conclude - we wanted to leave some doors open to mystery. There is a short narrative text at the beginning of Prince of Persia:
The wind is free, but the sand goes where it is blown. Unaware of the world around it, whirling on the breath of the Gods, at the mercy of the storm that engulfs it. What is one grain of sand in the desert? One grain amongst the storm?
"It was our hope that people's interpretation of this text would change as they played the game and as they lived the adventure of Prince of Persia. What did this phrase mean to you when you first started, what did it mean when you finished? And, possibly, does your perception change once again once you play the Epilogue?"
Having listened to community feedback, Rguigui said that Ubisoft has taken off the Prince's stabilisers - the DLC will ramp up the difficulty level by adding cleverer puzzles, plus more challenging combat and acrobatics sequences.

Well. I reckon I'd take a better ending than having to reflect on a poem.
I enjoyed the game but I'm curious to see how they can develop it. The structure seeemed really limiting.
Reckon they should take more of a shadow of collosus approach to the boss battles next time and have you having to traverse huge ones instead of just making the standard fights longer.
I loved the jumping around but the combat was boring.
Pfft. Jake gylanhall although a good actor, just doesn't sit right as the prince. Wish initial rumours had been true and it was the guy that played Carlos in Resident evil 2.
On the ending of POP the achievement says it all; To be continued.
If you think about the opening text its fitting and narratively its excellent. But as a gamer its cheapens the entire experience.
The Prince kills himself at the end of the game because he finds out Jake Gyllenhaal is playing him in the Prince of Persia movie
Heh I don't mind the guy, and I do think he's a pretty decent actor, so maybe he'll do a reasonable job. Maybe.
Can't be as bad as Marky Mark in Max Payne... Yeesh.
Hehe. I've refused to watch Max Payne. I've not heard good things about that movie =P
I actually don't mind Jake Gyllenhaal either. I just think they should atleast use a Persian actor to play a Persian bloke.
I hope he's as c**ky and witty in the film as he is in the latest game. I love some of the conversions he has with Elika. He's a funny guy =P
Funnily enough, it is the same actor who played Drake in Uncharted and he was very funny in that too. Probably the reason why I can't bring myself to play PoP as it would break the illusion for Drakes 2.
I actually find the mental image of Jake Gyllenhaal playing PoP in the movie quite fitting. He has dark enough looks to pass as Arabian nobility and I think he's a fine actor. Depending on what impression the previews of the movie leave I expect it's a flick I'd like to watch.
seeing some shots floating around the net of gylanhall as the prince he does look the part at least. A sort of cross between the new prince and the guy from the sands of time saga.
Its a jerry brockheimer movie so its should be better than your average game movie. but i'm worried it'll end up like pirates of persia. If you get what i'm saying.

I'm not sure - Donnie Darko is a great film, but I thought he was pretty unconvincing in Brokeback Mountain....at the end, you can just tell that they've glued some fake moustache onto his lip and dyed his hair a little grey.
Mind you, it could have been that he was opposite Heath Ledger - his performance was absolutely brilliant in that movie.

Check him out in "Jarhead" (2005). I read one critic's review who felt it was slow, yet I didn't get that impression at all when I watched most of it not too long ago (I missed the beginning).
