The upcoming Xbox 360 Tomb Raider: Underworld DLC, Lara's Shadow, will allow you "to play as an entirely new character for the first time in the history of the Tomb Raider franchise".
Well, sort of. You'll get to step into the shoes of the Doppleganger, a clone of Lara Croft who commands "superior shadow powers, increased agility" and the "ability to slow time to unleash devastating melee combos".
We'd have more info if the developer diary movie Eidos released didn't appear to be broken, - we'll update the story with the movie as soon as we get a working version.
Lara's Shadow is the second Xbox 360-exclusive DLC pack and is due to launch on March 10 as a 1.07GB download via Xbox Live.
An "entirely new character" that shares a name with the lead character? I'm guessing just a blackened version of Lara then.
I'm also sort of concerned by the mention of super powers. It sounds like they're trying to do the same thing with Lara that Sega are doing with Sonic.
I guess this is what happens when you spend all of your time selling it on the basis that it has a chick in hotpants as the lead character rather than keeping up the standard of content that made the first couple of games great.
So basically Lara is just doing a Sonic/Zelda/Mario/Metroid/everyothergameevermade.
Im a life long Tomb Raider fan and i hated Underworld so much i never finished it, until Eidos is dead Lara to me is dead. Eidos have flogged that horse so many times its unbelievable. Hopefully square will either completely overhaul the franchise or lay Lara to rest.
I'm pretty sure I've read before that Tomb Raider was inspired by the original Prince of Persia... and this just reminds me of jumping through the mirror in the original PoP and freeing your evil twin in the process.
I always thought Tomb Raider was somewhat grounded in reality though (apart from the massive boss creatures), so it's an odd choice.
i think i would have enjoyed Tomb Raider Underworld more, on the 360. on PS2, the controls are conpletely unresponsive, and has caused me to almost smash the controller. if only my 360 wasn't shared with my brother, and didn't get RROD.
erm - right in the very first Tomb Raider she had a clone and there were special powers in the game.. not used by her i know but it isisnt something new in the Tomb Raider Universe.
They just letting you go the clone for first time as an extra.
"play as an entirely new character for the first time in the history of the Tomb Raider franchise".
errr....the name 'Kurtis Trent' springs to mind.
aka: entirely new playable character featured in Tomb Raider: Angel of Darkness
aka: Tomb Raider 6
aka: s**ttest Tomb Raider game on record (a game which I strangely still quite enjoyed).
aka: still part of the Tomb Raider franchise.
Sigh... another diligently researched Eidos Press Release bites the dust.
haha i forgot about that. I too didnt mind angel of darkness, at the time. Going back now i couldnt stand to play 5 mins lol. Tomb raider 5 only one i didnt bother buying. Tomb raider 3 only one i played and didnt complete. Hated the mine cart sections.
Square keep you're money in your pocket, wait a few months and you'll pick this all up for nothing when Eidos go bust (along with that other fantastic IP Shellshock).
