The first details on BioShock 2: Sea of Dreams have emerged via a new teaser site dubbed 'There's Something in the Sea'.
From the documents and prizes scattered around 2K's moody flash site, it's been established that the second BioShock is actually a sequel - and not a prequel, as has been heavily rumoured.
If the writings on the website aren't just red herrings, then the plot for the second game revolves around the mysterious disappearance of a 7-year-old girl from a small fishing town overlooking the water, some seven years after the events of the first BioShock.
"Local fisherman Eamon Clune, 44, and his wife Charlotte (32) were awoken by the sudden shattering of a window in the front room," a document on the site reads. "Moments later, his daughter Maura, age 7, screamed. Mr Clune rushed to investigate the noise only to notice the unknown attacker racing out of the broken window with 'incredible speed'
"Due to the moonless night, Clune was unable to provide a description of the assailant. He notes that the attacker was thin, above average height and wore some kind of 'red light.'"
A picture on the site of a toy said to resemble the "assailant" looks like - yep, you guessed it - a Big Daddy. Perhaps even a slimmer and - going by the text - faster version. Investigate more yourself on the website.
We have to say we're surprised and delighted by the direction the sequel's taking with its story - this is much more compelling sounding stuff than a simple origins story. Expect more soon.
YES!!! Yes, at last, god I've been waiting for so long for some info, and I like what I'm seeing, very much so. Bioshock is definitely the best game of this generation so far in my opinion and my favourite game of all time. This will definitely be my GOTY if 2K don't mess things up like Capcom did with Resident Eil 5. Please let this be as good, or dare I say it? Even better then the original. I'm so excited, I can't wait. This info just made my day.
The first game was almost a classic for me (only let down by the sub par ending) and I do hope that they can produce a game worthy of the first. My only concern is that it is no longer Ken Levines Baby, and though I dont doubt the creativity or talent of the team developing it, without him at the helm, im going to hold off until we get more info and previews/reviews on it.
i like first game, in second though i would like to have cutscenes to provide me with story.
Cutscenes take you out of the game in my view. I like games that keep you in first person and you expierence everything as you would as if you were there, just like the half-life series.
I have to admit I really love it when developers release teaser sites. Whether it is for Games, Movies or TV. We can all feel like detectives then and have good discussion with friends about how we interperet what is being shown us.
I have a feeling that the main site will update with more news reports on the dates shown on the screenshot above leading to the games release sometime in the summer.

Yes agreed. I do wonder if all these teasers will be in game clues or whether the middle cross on the CVG map will be where you will start in the game.
Anyone think as I do that the girl being 7 is significant considering the game is set 7 years after the original?
maybe, but i thought that the little sisters got imbued with adam when they were 7, The big daddies might just be looking for replacements for the ones that escaped.
Be interesting to see if the other disappearing children are all the same age.
Here's hoping. Original was awesome... one of the few games I've been bottomd to go through twice.
I'd be interested to see how/if the music/tone changes... I mean I know Rapture would technically be trapped in the perpetual 50's style, but the game is set in '67, and if not set in Rapture per se different music etc maybe?

Ahh good point. Would be interesting to see if they are. I should imagine this will be in a new place, especially with that teaser at the end of the PS3 version. Any ideas on where the first one was in relation to the world?
you see the big x in the middle of the ocean. Thats where rapture is.
SPOILORZ MUTHA f**ker SPOILORZ!!!!
The trailer sort of makes sense now. I always thought it was pertaining to the little sisters returning to rapture by thier own free will after you left with them all at the end of the original.
Odd to see that the girl was only 7 though. If the daddies were reclaiming the little sisters from the first game and dragging them back to rapture they would of been in thier teens i guess.
Looks like instead of that they are taking new children to turn into little sisters.
Someone must be rebuilding the place. Hopefully its not fontaine as that would suck. Ryan on the other hand could be interesting.
This is all assuming you got the good ending. Then again the bad ending basically made it looked like you used an army of splicers to hold the world to ransom with nukes.
Damn i'm already really excited aout this game and i haven't seen so much as an in game screenshot yet.
True, but i wouldn't rule it out... remember you were dealing with an eccentric billionaire with vested interests in cloning and a con artist well practised at the art of deception (at her feet was a foot loose man... *cough* sorry).
Although who knows what it holds. Speculation is fun but i'm hoping the actual end result is something for more unimaginable...

i agree about half-life, but in bioshock i missed few lines when i entered a room, the picture in top right corner was telling me something while bunch of freaks was running onto me yelling, after killing them i was wondering what he was on about ?

-------
uuhhh.. I think they're both dead dude. You did play the first game right?
and even if they're not why would it 'suck' if Fontaine was re-building it? we already know what a Ryan built Rapture looks like. How could a badass mafia bosses vision of this twisted city not be cool to blast your way through?
Greetings from the beach mentioned on the website! We have a local legend about an island in liscannor bay which its master could raise and submerge using a "magic ring" which would glow red. Though this could all be just coincidental/unintentional by the devs, but underwater cities and such seem to tie into the idea of BioShock This link mentions it, look at the 3rd paragraph http://www.clarelibrary.ie/eolas/coclare/folklore/folklore_survey/chapter9.htm
*twiddles thumbs until his previous comment is noticed*
Ok I'll bite... i got a few more minutes to kill...
It's an interesting point you made mate, although tenneuous.
I find it interesting with regards to the first trailer, purely because the city rising out of the water and then the logo at the end seems to submerge out of water and then the butterfly appears.
(edited after rewatching the video and not just posting from memory!)
I guess its also worth mentioned that Liscannor was the birth place of the inventor of the worlds first submarine :John Philip Holland, though a wikipedia search of Liscannor would turn that up
sorry i only just got back from lunch. Considering how bookish the first Bioschock is. READ SO MUCH MORE INTERESTING IF YOU'RE NOT A COMPLETE RETARD. I'd say it might not be a coinsidence.
If you think about the picture above of the fully revealed teaser site the disappearences are all along the coast of several different countries almost as if something was sailing along the coastline.
We only ever assumed that rapture was actually attatched to the ocean floor. Considering the amount of highly advanced technology contained within the place that there might be some way to move the city isn't impossible.
To Rubblemaker. Do i sound like someone who played the game? I think you missed the point of it my friend and should probably go back and replay it. Nothing is what it seems in bioshock and the whole reason that rapture is so interesting is that it can be likened to the metropolis of Platos republic. or fritz lang city of the same name. Its about the distopian undercurrents within so called utopian society and why they are always doomed to fail because of the darker side of human nature.
This is all getting rather interesting haha! It will be nice to see what happens as we get nearer to the release but it would be silly not to assume that someone from the original Rapture was back creating either a copy of the City or a better version. This would also explain the potential evolution of the Big Daddy...
If you read the description of the kidnapper they are fast and slim with a red light. That and the picture of the Big Daddy doll could piece together to be a Big Daddy evolved.

It looks like this "new" (apparently they're thin now) Big Daddy is travelling around in a kind of submarine that emits a red glow and is also very fast. It really does look like they're collecting girls again to rebuild Rapture, but who could be doing this? I hope it's Ryan.
I also think that this curious person that we see scribbling on all the pages will be the character we play as. He seems to know more than we do, and he seems like the curious type that could go wondering into Rapture and get caught up in another breathtaking adventure.
My excitement level is rising... 2K are handling this very well and I'm liking it... I want more...
Wow, seems like it's going to be quite an enticing sequel. I will not be surprised in the slightest if this Jeremiah Lynch fellow has a lot to do with the storyline. And possibly we will be this Eamon Clune chap. Although an eccentric fisherman? He better be a really cool eccentric fisherman, with a bit more story to him than the previous main character.
The last time I played Bioshock was a while back and, from memory, it seemed that everyone else's characters were well built and dense with rich backstory etc. But trying to think back I can't remember much about who you actually played as...
yes a prequel, set 7 years after the events of the original. Bioshock 2 time paradox!
I highly doubt this jeremiah guy will be the main character you play as. The guys 71. although trying to fight off big daddy's as an elderly kook armed with nothing but a cane and contempt for the youth of today, could make for a thrilling adventure.
I'm sorry but for me it's pretty obvious that the sequel assumes you opted for the 100% good ending. You ask why? Simply the mysterious "thing", obviously some kind of a Big Daddy version, is kidnapping THE DAUGHTERS OF THE LITTLE SISTERS YOU HAVE SAVED in the original Bioshock. All of them similar age (7), all of them bare remarkable resemblance to each other and I'm assuming the circle of kidnappings revolves around the position of Rupture. Probably they might have some ADAM still inside their bodies, somehow inherited through their mothers (I know, I know we healed them right? Or did we?).

Well what do you say? Possible?
Let me clear some things up for you. Bioshock 2: Sea of Dreams is set 7 years after the events of the original Bioshock. So if we go by your logic, the Little Sisters that we saved in Bioshock all gave birth at the age of 7 and are now 14 year old mothers that have 7 year old daughters. Now I think there's something wrong with that.
Anyway, the Big Daddy is kidnapping random 5-7 year old girls from the Atlantic Coast (and according to CVG's screenshot from the future we'll be seeing a lot more notes about girls that have been stolen on the website) because the Little Sisters in the original Bioshock were around 7 years old.
I hope this clears things up.
By the way, there is even more info on the site now.
www.somethinginthesea.com
It looks like they add one more "X" and a batch of new notes every day (except weekends). Also, from CVG's screenshot I can see that there will be a total of 16 "X"'s in the end, so we have a lot of info to look forward to for the next couple of weeks I think.
