In light of recent rumours, Nintendo has told CVG that Wii MotionPlus technically isn't delayed because it was never officially dated.
The new motion-sensing peripheral was widely expected to release this spring - when Nintendo had originally dated the peripheral's showcase title, Wii Sports Resort, to hit shelves.
Wii Sports Resort, however, recently dropped off Nintendo release shedules, and rumours suggest Nintendo is still ironing out some creases with the new MotionPlus tech, which may see its release fall beyond June.
But a Nintendo rep told CVG: "No date was ever announced for MotionPlus - so technically it can't be delayed."
I just cant see it living up to expectations at all.
How much difference can it REALLY make?
Plus Nintendos track record of supporting peripherals recently is just a total joke, so there isnt anyway in hell Im gonna buy this.
The Zapper and especially the balance board really arent anywhere near as well supported as I thought they might be, so why should this be any different?
really i have at least a handful of games that support the balance board and pretty much every shooting game that is released on the wii has zapper support. Its constantly growing.
The motion plus is going to be an add on to the wiimote itself and will probably end up getting used in 99% of new games. not picking one up in the end would be foolish.
yeah this will probably be the most necessary out of all the peripherals Ninty has released for the Wii, it's not just some shell like the Zapper, it will help to improve certain type of games, specifically melee based games.
It reminds me of the expansion pack on the n64. No-one thought they needed one but then when they found they couldn't play Majora's Mask on Christmas morning there was madness
When and if I use my wii it’s always irritating that the remote doesn’t point where the curser / hand is. This, from what I understand will make the remote point exactly in the line with the point on the tv. Much better and it will be worth 20 quid or so. They should just build it into the remote in the first place oh, no they cant do that. it would mean no more extra money for nintendo. then of course there will patent infringment from a company claiming they invesnted it first. poor nintendo Then all I will need is a remake of resi 1 in the resi 4 fashion.

I've mentioned this on the story about Conduit ditching motionplus control but I'll repeat myself anyway; if the motionplus add-on was dropped from a highly anticipated game set in a genre as prevalent as the fps, then its potential uses sound severly limited.
Hopefully then, the creases Nintendo are ironing out will be creases such as making motionplus improve/enhance control in traditional gaming genres; the genres that still leave the average gamer sceptical about the benefits of motion control in general. If a device were created that proved unequivocally that motion control was more accurate, intuitive and faster than traditional control this device could rewrite the rules of gaming.
Sadly, whether it becomes essential or not, I'm of the opinion that this will not be the case, and no matter how long its delayed, Motionplus will no more significantly improve game control than the standard motion controller does presently.

I don't really agree. It's the pointer that makes the wii my favourite platform for FPS's. In terms of control at least. It's not the motion controls. I could forgo the latter, not the former.
If it had been something like a sports game, then I could understand it being slightly worrying if it added nothing to the game.

As usual Monkey, I agree. The motion plus allows a massive improvement in remote response, giving the remote 1:1 control, which is impressive. Since Nintendo are the masters of new gaming tech, I'm very eager to have a go, but only once the little niggles are dealt with.
There are around 20 titles that make use of the Balance Board, about 9 Wii Zapper titles and only 1 title that makes use of Wii Speak (with only 1 future title, The Conduit making further use of it) We need to see voice chat options, at least for friends who have exchanged codes... otherwise this is easily the worst supported peripheral out there!
There are already 4 promising titles in development for the MotionPlus, and once other companies see what possibilities true 1:1 motion can offer, I expect this to increase very quickly. So what if generic FPS wannabe couldn’t make effective use of it, many other developers will I’m sure. 1:1 is a very exciting prospect. It can offer depth of realism in games like golf, tennis etc by taking into account and replicating your swing in real-time, the height, angle, speed and direction of the shot.
This effectively allows for casual titles to offer an almost simulation like depth. Just like driving games allow you to remove driving aids, a game of tennis could be as simple as a fun Wii Sports rally, or a true test of judgment, positioning, placement and skill! This could be the answer to finally getting titles for ‘Hardcore gamers.’
The prospect of real-time sword battles in and a new Zelda title, or true lightsabre duals in a Starwars game are no longer a pipe dream but an achievable reality with this add-on!
i think its only a matter of time. Considering the size most wii files are it can't be long before we'll be able to play stuff straight off the sd card,
latest big news in the homebrew community was that someones managed togive the wii usb 2 support somewhow as well.
For the few people that don't seem to of understood the point of this: It's not to improve the accuracy of the pointer because that works via the infa-red sensor bar, it's to improve the motion sensors of the control i.e. the waggling as some people have pointed out. I doubt it'll improve the nunchuck though so for things like boxing games you would ideally need two Wiimotes for true 1:1 control.

Or you'd have a killer right hook and the left hook of a stroke victim.
Why the hell would anyone want resi one remade in resi 4s style. it just doesn't lend itself to it.
the GC remake has also already been released for the wii with control tweeks in japan, hopefully it'll get an eu release eventually too.
why the hell not monkey? can you imagine the mansion in full 3d with the wii remote. oh, you obviously cant
you obviously haven't played the GC remake. If you had you'd understand my sentiment. And they've already sort of done it if you'd noticed its been released for the wii in japan.
They've already made the definitive ed of it, remaking it again would be a waste of time. If you'd said resi 2 thats an entirely different matter.
I just think you are all expecting too much from the motionplus.
We have been told that it offers true 1 to 1 motion control, but to be honest thats what we were told about the actual Wii remote.
I just take anything Nintendo say these days as a pinch of salt.
I love them, but they seem more concerned with making gadgets than games these days.
Surely every single one of you would prefer it if they were working on a new F Zero, Wave Race or Donkey Kong game instead of this motion plus thing.
My point about the balance board earlier is really that it hasnt been exploited properly. I can only think of the skiing games that have really used it properly (and maybe Skate it! well, maybe). Apart from that though they have either been WiiWare or minigame compendiums.
Where is my balance board compatible Space Harrier???!!! Thats all I want!!
I think a lot of people are unsure of what motionplus actually does.
It is simply a gyroscope that enables the wii remote to detect the yaw axis, thats basically rotation that still keeps it flat. It can already detect all the other 5 axes (six axes in total, sixaxis sound familiar?)
This **in theory** means 1:1 control, but accuracy is an issue, and also what devs do with it. I personally think its a way to appease devs who expected 1:1 control rather than working with what they had. They all just said "It isn't really 1:1" and gave up, that is why I am like Fanboy and am incredibly sceptical as to what this might add, if anything, as very few devs used the wii remote properly before why should that change now?
EDIT: this video will explain it much better than i can http://www.invensense.com/support/library.html. Remember currently the Wii has a multi axis accelerometer and motion plus adds a gyroscope
