MS "no comment" on Elite discontinuation

Microsoft has refused to comment on reports that its planning to discontinue the Elite SKU of the Xbox 360, instead moving it into a more limited edition role ala the blood red Resident Evil 5 console.

In reply to a web report that claims that manufacturing of the Elite console will cease in the second quarter of this year, a Microsoft spokesperson told CVG: "Microsoft does not comment on rumours or speculation." Not a denial nor confirmation, then.

According to the original report's insider "sources," the Elite will move into a more limited edition role, like the above Resi 5 box, and will be available at only "select retailers".

As part of the transition, a larger 120GB-plus hard drive will also be made available, the site claims. We'd hate to think how much that will retail for...

Sounds fair enough to us. Especially if MS ends up bundling the standard Pro console with an even larger hard drive. We'll let you know if anything else leaks out...
