The cover disc for the next issue of Official Xbox Magazine will include the New Xbox Experience dashboard update.
This means that the redesigned Xbox 360 backend - which was made available to Xbox Live users last year - will now be obtainable by those without internet access.
The new dash, in case you're still living in the dark ages (and looking at this site via one of your futuristic mate's "witchcraft" Blackberry devices) adds totally new menus, hard disk installs and Avatars, among other features.
Users still messing around with the old 'blades' interface will soon be forced to upgrade, as MS plans to ship NXE with new games and consoles.
Why would you even own a next gen console without internet access? Stupid questions as those people are going to be able to respond on a forum are they?

Because games are mainly made for the solo experience? So why would you need one if you just want to play alone?
After several bad experiences with loud mouth American retards I couldn't give a toss about playing online... I only checked back in to download the Resi 5 demo and even then I wish i hadn't bothered.
Most of the stuff I play barely has any online stuff to worry about, JRPG's don't tend to work too well as multiplayer games and I despise FPS's so I've no real interest in playing with a bunch of foul mouth hooligans.

I'm pretty much in the same boat, although I've always had a Gold account. I only really jump online with my real life friends though, only time I'd have a match with a stranger is with PES or FIFA.
I don't tend to play games online myself, but I have to admit that if you haven't got your 360, PS3 or Wii online, then you're missing out on all the download-only games they have to offer, as well as DLC, demos and trailers. Haven't tried watching a movie on the 360 though, as I have Sky Movies and many DVDs and several Blu-ray films.
I haven't got my 360 or PS3 online yet, with the exception of not getting to try certain games, I don't feel like I'm missing much. As it is the official Xbox site let you put the update on a DVD and install it that way ages ago.
Single player stuff is fine as long as the experience is long and involving (Mass Effect for example). But in games like Call of Duty you only get a fraction of the experience by not playing online. AI is predictable, it always behaves the same way when placed in a certain situation. The 20 real people on a server will all react slightly differently when put in the same situation. Makes for a far more interesting game.
That said, I guess there's no reason for JRPG fans to bother with it
I always had a gold account on XBL since it launched, but time with it is much reduced since then. I usally do play online (Bad company, COD, PGR etc), but if im not with friends i dont use the headset, i just play the game, time is split evenly with online play and single player stuff, like Bully, Tomb Raider etc.

Totally, if you love your FPS's then online is a must, too many of them now ignore the single player mode to concentrate on multiplayer... if I do dabble in First Person it's only for something really stand out like Bioshock or Deus Ex, games that still remember there are people out there who care about something other than blowing crap up.
