BioShock 2: "simultaneous" release

And multiplayer details "soon enough", says 2K
After the first game's staggered arrival to the market, BioShock 2 will see a "simultaneous" release on Xbox 360, PS3 and PC, 2K has told CVG.

"We're aiming for simultaneous release on all platforms (Xbox 360, PS3 and PC)," a company spokesperson told us, with the promise of details on the sequel's illusive multiplayer mode "soon enough". It's expected to release later this year.

The sequel was revealed in full last week via US mag Game Informer. If you haven't scrutinised every little detail like us, you should know that it takes place ten years after the original when the underwater city of Rapture's sunk further into the depths of despair.

There are more than a few shocking twists on the original formula, too.

Read our summary on the second game right here, and look for more coverage on the second game in the coming weeks.

That they've even thought about including a multiplayer game is enough to keep me away from this.

Bioshock didn't need multiplayer, the way the game was set us was that multiplayer wouldn't be possible.
Suivatam109PS3 on 20 Mar '09
f**k you 2K you f**king sell-outs, thanks a lot for making the singleplayer suffer and including a f**king multiplayer just to increase the game's sales. It's not like it needs it either, Bioshock 1 sold 3 million without any kind of multiplayer and Bioshock 2 will and would easily sell twice as much without multiplayer anyway. Now, we're going to get an inferior singleplayer just so that people can shoot each others faces off and scream at each other. Yeah, that's EXACTLY what Bioshock is all about. Rolling Eyes

I knew it was too much to ask for when I wished for another great singleplayer game like Bioshock 1. I guess Bioshock 1 is just going to stay a unique singleplayer classic in my mind and Bioshock 2 is going to be ignored. Sad

Unless of course 2K Marin redeem themselves in some spectacular way this franchise has gone down the toilet in my eyes. Wink
Little Moth on 20 Mar '09
Totally agree, any kind of multiplayer is just gonna drag the single player down, Bioshock doesnt need any kind of multiplay co-op or competetive its just gonna screw the whole game over.

Here's hoping they come to their senses and take MP out before release, but i doubt it.
ukdruid on 20 Mar '09
same thing happened with resi 5 and that suffered majorly. This is just the suits wanting to cash in, absolutely ridiculous! bring levine back!

Yeah, Capcom totaly f**ked up with Resident Evil 5, I doubt 2K Marin will mess up that bad, I mean they do have the "Fort Frolic" guy in charge of the project and there's not going to be any co-op to mess with the singleplayer. We'll just have to wait and see, the only thing that's true is that it's not going to be anywhere near Bioshock 1 quality.

pretty tough thing to make 1 of my favourite games ever then follow it up with a highly probable piece of crap sequel. I was expected a prequel increasing raptre's back story but instead ur gonna play as a kind of big daddy 10 years after the 1st 1. how the story is going to fit (and the story was the best part of the game) with tht i have no idea. I hope to death im wrong abt this (also mp is needless and will prob hamper the experience on top of tht) but for now i'll stay very far away from anything bioshock 2.

bioshock is a game i missed til today, still not played it but i traded in a recent average shooter for this and mass effect (loved it so much the first time round i decided i wanted to do it again as the biggest C*nt in the universe lol) and uncharted..... 3 apparently top games(i know mass effect is awesome already) for the trade price of a recent average shooter (okay i paid another tenner on top of the 25 i was given for the game i traded in but was completely worth it), what a scoop!!!drakes was one of the games i got today and im loving it so far.... not played bioshock yet though but by all acounts its amazing, havent seen one person on here (who's opinion counts) who has said otherwise...

Ok, I've read the preview and it has me pretty much convinced that Bioshock 2 is going to be awesome. I can't believe I'm actually saying this, but yeah, it looks like Jordan Thomas and crew know exactly what they're doing. Except for the multiplayer, they still need toget rid of that crap.

Hmm... looks like I was wrong, gonna be frickin' sweet. Maybe if the singleplayer is as strong as it seems and then with the added multiplayer, Bioshock 2 will get even better scores than Bioshock 1. Now THAT would be SOMETHING!

Drakes is a fantastic game I have played through it 3 times so far.

I agree with you on that this doesn't need a multiplayer. Bioshock was all about being alone and wandering around and being attacked by nutters. I don't think I'd even want a co-op mode (not read the preview) and if there was one, I wouldn't bother with it. The same applies to Metroid Prime and its good that they removed it from the third game..

I will remain hopefull that the main game will be just as good - if not better - than the original. But one thing's for sure, this generation of gaming is actually pushing me further away from gaming. I don't think I'm gonna bother with the next round. Maybe cos I'm growing up but I think its more to do with the fact that they're just not making games like they used to...
JuiKuen on 21 Mar '09
That preview article the poster above linked to was good from what I read and saw.

Wasn't too keen on the fact the little sisters have been remodelled to look less 'monstrous' and I'm still concerned with the whole 'playing as the 1st Big Daddy' thing, although it could prove interesting. A shame you're not back as the game's first character, for continuity's sake.

Multi-platform release is worrying, always screams to me 'poor PC port'. Mind you, the first game had a console vibe to it and was brilliant. Apart from the crap end section.

Multiplayer should be binned, agreed.
HotRabbit on 21 Mar '09
Totally agree, any kind of multiplayer is just gonna drag the single player down.

That's not necessarily true. Take CoD4 for example, it has both a great single player and excellent multiplayer. The single player suffers maybe in the sense that it becomes shorter than it could of been.

That or it could end up something like Sonic Adventure 2 Battle where the single player is great but the multiplayer sucks so hardly anyone will play it anyway Laughing

Either way I'm not trying to defend the game (I personally think it sounds rubbish so far too) but I'm giving it a chance until there's more concrete details i.e. screenshots/videos/previews/reviews because it could still end up being better than it sounds Wink

No co-op... I'll buy me a second-hand copy once all the fanboys have played through it, twice, and sell it. Or will be cheaper just to rent!?

Yeah, sure does after reading the preview, if they can just get a really good story around all great (in my "new" opinion) ideas, I think they're set and Bioshock 2 will be brilliant. Very Happy

We should be happy that it looks better than the disaster that is Resident Evil 5... Rolling Eyes

What if they are releasing bull to wind people up? I don't believe the Big Daddy thing any more that I believe the thing about the Russians. The idea if multiplayer has probably not really crossed their minds, but to mention stuff like this gets people talking about the game does it not? That way, nearer release when people have been talking about it for ages, they can say that it is single player only, you won't be a big daddy and there are no Russians. They will then be met with applause and a queue to buy the game.

Marketing.
jon_hill987 on 21 Mar '09
I'm sorry, Is it not possible to make awesome multi and single player games?
JazzJ on 21 Mar '09
Even though I am against this stupid "everything must have multiplayer" fad, I do think some people on here are going a bit overboard.

I dont want MP in the game at all to be honest, and i most definately DO NOT want "co-op". However, adding these things does NOT automatically make the game no good.

FEAR 2 to use an example has an excellent SP game, and a MP mode which I have never even touched. Its an excellent SP game which Ive beaten twice though.

I think Bioshock 2 will be brilliant, the first is a classic.

The only time MP addition becomes a problem is when the game suffers because of it, or they dumb it down to cater for the "frag" market. For an example of this look no further than the insultingly botched Resident Evil 5.

what a bunch of moaning snooker cues, you are all going to buy it fullstop. like a bunch of old f**kin women

Look what I found, It looks like Bioshock 2: Sea of Dreams is no longer called Bioshock 2: Sea of Dreams but just Bioshock 2. I think it's a change for the better, there's really no need for silly subtitles.

http://www.oxm.co.uk/article.php?id=9035
Little Moth on 22 Mar '09
Oh I dunno, I quite liked the "Sea of Dreams" subtitle. But then again I don really mind, so long as the game is good!
TezChi on 23 Mar '09
what a bunch of bitches. WA WA WA,

I don't give a flying f**k if bioshock 2 has multiplayer or not. If it does. I'm sure it'll be an interesting and twisted experience. Ever think that the whole big daddies getting adam/ lil sisters might have been the multiplayer portion of the game?

Then again i bought and have found it hard to put down resi5 since launch day. Turns out that the Partner isn't that bad. And its just as much a resi game as 4 was. Who knew a series was aloud to evolve and try different things.

If it was up to bitches like you We'd all still be playing space invaders because changing any part of the classic formula would f**k up gaming.
WHERESMYMONKEY on 23 Mar '09
Seriously, gamers today are nothing but a bunch of moany cry baby pussies. It's the main reason I try to stay away from gaming forums and even online play. I cant deal with them, and as this topic shows, CVG is full of these c**ts as well. Listening to this moth guy bitch and moan like A BITCH is enough to put anyone off gaming
Nick33 on 23 Mar '09
I bet everyone who moans about Bioshock 2 having possible multiplayer spends ages on said multiplayer.
What could be more awesome than a Big Daddy riot on Live?
Not much else.
Blumiere on 23 Mar '09
I'll try the demo if anything, Bioshock 1 was amazingly good, The franchise doesn't even need Multiplayer support, it is entirely a stupid decision for 2K to add such a thing to one of THE best games of last year.

Levine needs to return, to be honest.

@Blumiere, Think of what the future hold's for Bioshock?, Turn it into multiplayer.. yeah because that will live up for bioshock 3(if it makes it).
Bioshock was made to be singleplayer, nothing more.

Yes, that's what I mean, sure I might get a little "emotional" about the Bioshock franchise, but that's only because I want Bioshock 2 to be the best singleplayer game it can be, because that's what Bioshock 1 was all about and that's what made it great.

Also, yes I do play multiplayer, there are lots of games that do mutliplayer very well like Halo 3 and COD 4. So, it's not like the world desperately needs another online game.

I just think Bioshock 2 should stick to Bioshock 1's strengths.
