Max Payne 3 announced

360, PS3 and PC "winter '09"
Rockstar Games has confirmed Max Payne 3 is currently in development and scheduled for a winter 2009 release on 360, PS3 and PC.

"Developed by Rockstar Vancouver, Max Payne 3 tells the story of a retired police detective embroiled in a world of corruption, turmoil and intense violence," is the first info we've received.

If you're new to the world of Payne, the game puts you in the role of Max, a hard-boiled New York City detective with a penchant for violence, out to avenge the death of his family. "The latest installment delivers more of the classic elements and hyper-intense action that fans have come to love, while moving the story of Max in a new direction," Rockstar adds.

"We're starting a new chapter of Max's life with this game," said Sam Houser, founder of Rockstar Games. "This is Max as we've never seen him before, a few years older, more world-weary and cynical than ever. We experience the downward spiral of his life after the events of Max Payne 2 and witness his last chance for salvation."

The release continues: "Since leaving the NYPD and New York itself behind, Max has drifted from bad to worse. Double-crossed and a long way from home, Max is now trapped in a city full of violence and bloodshed, using his weapons and instincts in a desperate search for the truth and a way out."

Shots soon hopefully.

Oh great news! Max Payne 1 and 2 were awesome in their day, I hope number three can pull some new tricks out - it can't just rely on bullet time anymore! I'd also like to see the miserable git smile once or twice.

YES! At last, I've been impatiently awaiting MP3. Very Happy

It sounds brilliantly depressing. Bring on the Payne!

In other news: Nelly the Elephant finds a cure for her embarrasing wind problem!

Now that is awesome news!
CrippledHooba on 23 Mar '09
Not that I want to be pedantic but surely games can't be released into the past?
GelptheMonkey on 23 Mar '09
Great news - apart from the potential fly in the ointment of the systems announced being "Xbox 360, PS3, and PC" and not "PC, then maybe consoles later".

Hazzaa!!

wheeey about bloody time and all Very Happy

Excellent, can't wait for it myself. Brilliant games (1 and 2). Hopefully they keep the comic book parts between levels, that really helped set the scene.
minignaz on 23 Mar '09
Brilliant news! And I know it isnt being developed by Remedy but I trust R* to do a sterling job.

Now, if this game comes out before another game that Remedy themselves have been working ... well ... that would just be ridiculous.
StonecoldMC on 23 Mar '09
I'm a very happy man...I recently replayed MP2 and it's still a great playing, great looking, gritty game. I can't believe that it was out nearly six years ago!

Carry on Standard, carry on.
StonecoldMC on 23 Mar '09
WOOOO yeah, can't wait. kinda got bored of the whole Alan Wake mistery (spelling), and this game has been eagerly awaited for many years after Max payne 2. will definately have to get on PC or 360. WOOHOO
1589vaughan on 23 Mar '09
Great news. Hopefully it doesn't come out the same time as Alan Wake though, otherwise we could be left with a tough choice (that's if Alan Wake even makes this year ^_^)
vulcanraven01 on 23 Mar '09
woohoo. I wonder how long R* have been keeping a lid on this. Been hoping for another Max Payne since i finiahed 2. Although where they're going to thake the story does sound interesting as the last game pretty much tied up all the loose ends.

first MP was ace, second a bit of a fall though.

Look on the bright side, can't be any worse than the film.
voodoo341 on 23 Mar '09
I assume they mean 2009...
ricflair on 23 Mar '09
Wow this sounds good. Hopefully they will make a good show of this one and not mess up the series.

Could 2009 be the year of reviving old games?
AJB123644 on 23 Mar '09
first MP was ace, second a bit of a fall though.

Joke, right? Just checking.

Quite possibly the best news I've heard in a long time, sounds a bit like Condemned 2 though.
GTCzeero on 23 Mar '09
I have but one question... which ending in MP2 are they going with?

Specifically, which one in regards to Mona...
hobnobrev on 23 Mar '09
That looks nothing like the Max Payne I remember! Must have had cosmetic surgery as he always was a wierd looking f**ker.
Budly Moore on 23 Mar '09
Sweet news this, looks like Christmas 2009 is going to be fantastic. I played the first game and absolutely loved it. I can't wait for this, hopefully it will turn out great!
Little Moth on 23 Mar '09
Awesome!!! hope they keep the noir feel of the first two, BRING THE PAYNE indeed!
HA1LT0THEK1NG on 23 Mar '09
i love max payne but i wish this was for ps3 only its gonna be held back by the 360 hoping its still gonna be great but could have been so much better without the demons grip holding the power house back
juggalo4life on 24 Mar '09
you've just made my year with that announcement!

YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEES!!!!!!!
proudgace on 24 Mar '09
OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG ...I've just ejaculated in my trousers!!!

Im filled with sheer joy and absolute horror at the same time.

Joy at the fact that my all time favourite gaming series is returning - and filled with horror over the fact that Remedy seem to have no input what-so-ever. I cant escape the feeling that this is going to be MP meets GTA......

If this is open world at ALL - it WILL kill it. The whole point of Payne is the fact that its a story driven on the rails shooter. For god sake Rockstar - dont f*ck this up!!!
leeb1977 on 24 Mar '09
Not too sure about this 1st was enjoyable 2nd was too samey samey I never completed that one. Will see how it shapes up but I'm not really bothered about this one.
gogo65uk on 24 Mar '09
Max has a pretty (f*cked up) face.
jamieleng on 24 Mar '09
The restaurant in Max Payne and the funhouse in Max Payne 2 are 2 of my favourite parts of the series.
Picnic12 on 24 Mar '09
holy F***** s**t Very Happy

I am getting vibes of excitement from a lot of folk.

I unfortunately, in my 24 years of living have never played a Max Payne game....I now feel like I've missed out.
