Nintendo's just unvieled a new Zelda game for DS, called Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks.
Apparently the new handheld installment has Link driving a train (hopefully not on the district line - he'll get stabbed wearing that tunic) in a traditional, Phantom Hourglass-esque setup.
The railroad mechanic in the game is said to be an extension of the last DS version's boat system, with link able to fire a cannon at enemies.
It will be available this year, says Nintendo. We've contacted Nintendo UK but it hasn't got anything else to add yet...
Christ, I'm not angry, just disappointed. I wanted to play something made by Nintendo that was new and excellent, considering there were rumblings that there was going to be a "huge announcement" (I'm looking at you IGN) its hardly surprising if some people are going to be disappointed that this turned out to be another Zelda game on the DS.

They will announce the Bigger titles at E3, with some coming out for the end of this year. so don't be disappointed. They will be coming..Nintendo always likes to hold on with reveals until the very last moment.
http://www.joystiq.com/photos/the-legend-of-zelda-spirit-tracks/ More screens for pleasure So it seems Hyrule is connected by trains. Link starts out as a lowlytrain driver and goes on a quest for zelda.
we want zelda dsi SHUT UP IDIOTS dsi is not established yet its a ds game it looks great sounds wacky and it will be great OH A TRAIN HOW LAME NINTENDO DOESNT DO LAME IT DOES GENIUS WACKY
MOANING ABOUT TRAINS WHAT ABOUT ITALIAN PLUMBERS
IT WILL ROCK fingers crossed it will have a DSi MODE
i find myself hopeing it isnt DSiware, as i payed out a tidy sum of money to get a first generation DS when it originally came out. Now, call me silly, but i refuse to pay more money out for a version of the DS with cameras, and a nice new interface. I'd rather save my cash for when they finally release a new handheld, and not a rehash with a new gimmick.
On topic, if this is anything like PH, im looking forwards to it greatly
I think they should be focusing on bringing out games like this for Wii instead. Now, if they annouced a new Metroid, Mario and Zelda on the that would finally be enough to persuade me to buy one.
So the ol' industial revolution has hit the land of hyrule. Can we expect guns instead of swords then. Instead of temples you have to navigate through factories an that. There's spinning jennys everywhere.
Seriously tho I'm a tad skeptical about the train element but at the same time I have the total blind faith only a nintendo fanboy can have that nintendo will deliver. Come on it's zelda. Looking at the screenshots the games looking good especially in the movie I saw (can't remember the site sorry, I didn't look that hard it's prob on YouTube anyway) I noticed zelda in her usual garb, some deku symbols in a dungeon and what looks like a fan weapon thing that looks like a mecabical version of the leaf from wind waker (industrial)
Was actually hoping for a wii zelda but I suppose e3 is the time for that now. Don't let me down nintendo and keep the spirit tracks (i hope thats a working title cos it sounds like something thought of in seconds) news coming.
at the title. Did the work-experience boy think that one up on his tea-break?
Apart from that, I'm sorry to say this but excited as I am about a new Zelda (who cares if it's not on the Wii? It's a new Zelda - stop whining about what console it's on) I'm treating this with a massive pinch of scepticism. Reason? Phantom Hourglass is the second-worst Zelda I've ever played, and I've played the original. A pathetic inventory, the enemy design budget ran out halfway through, those bloody sailing sections haven't got any better, two characters with any development at all (the fairies don't count because they have no personality), one fairly rubbish side-quest of any magnitude and that awful, AWFUL final boss. EDIT: Not to mention the Grand Central Dungeon.
And so far, it looks like the train mechanic will be taking the place of the tedious sailing. So all I need now is for the other six points to be fulfilled and we'll have Phantom Hourglass 2: Return of the Crapfest.
Pluses? Well, it's the first time I've seen Hyrule in gorgeous cel-shade-o-vision, and... er... well, Link looks quite cute in a train-driver's uniform.
Stop moaning everybody! This is the sequel to one of (if not the) best games on DS (not an opinion: Ngamer have it as the best DS game in their magazine), and it got that title for good reasons! Great visuals, several new features/weapons/amiable characters, excellent controls, brilliant storyline!(Although it didn't have ganondorf in it but hey, was Bellum actually a bad choice?) So stop moaning, it looks fantastic! Trust Nintendo on this like you always have!
