With climate change at the forefront of this week's G20 Summit in London, Nintendo will be disappointed to hear that it's once again been rated rock bottom in Greenpeace's list of electronics manufacturers.
The list looks at manufacturers' use of toxic chemicals - a big problem in consumer electronics, says Greenpeace.
No details were given as to why Nintendo fairs so badly, but Greenpeace does say it believes that "all electronics companies should have at least one toxic-free line of products on the market by the end of the year," which is fair enough.
Elsewhere in the list Microsoft performed almost as badly as the Big N, sitting unhappy in the red area of the green-o-meter, while Sony is almost half way into the green. Well done them.
"Exposing electronics companies to public pressure is helping to green the industry," says Greenpeace. "They could do much more, not only to clean up their own act, but to help the planet avoid runaway climate change."
Well for starters greenpeace wouldn't know there bottom from there elbow, Remember the Shell oil rig that there moaned about and got wrong. The other thing as has been said before, is that this is only based on there theory as nintendo haven't given them info on what they do & don't use in there factories. I don't blame then either, Greenpeace rarely get the facts right and always miss report stuff.
Unfortunately, this is a real story. Personally, I couldn't give a crap. Go back to saving baby seals or something Greenpeace!
And in this context, the word is "fares", not "fairs".
Unfortunately, this 'I don't give a crap' is what has got us into this posistion in the first place.
You might not see a drastic change in the world in your life time, but your children and their children most certainly will.
In the short term I'm more concerned about the evolution of super-bugs due to the overprescription of antibiotics. In the long term, well, we're coming to the end of the current warm period and will be entering an ice age again. Then of course we're overdue for another massive meteor strike and mass extinction. The super-volcano under Yellowstone is overdue for a massive eruption (again, that'll cause a mass extinction). A bit further down the line, the Andromeda galaxy is on a collision course with the Milky Way, an event that'll either hurl us out in the reaches of deep space or suck us in to the fiery center of the galaxy (or galaxies, by then). Of course, eventually the sun will explode, leaving the earth a burned rock orbiting a red giant. Ultimately, all light and energy in the universe will have dissipated, leaving nothing but blackness.
So yeah, Nintendo being at the bottom of some list drawn up by Greenpeace isn't really going to cause me any sleepless nights.
As for this, if Nintendo don't give any info as usual then Greenpeace have nothing to go on. They probably forgot the Wii consumes far less power than the other consoles too.

Nintendo should tell Greenpeace 'Yeah, when you start doing some of things that we regard as important, like making Super Mario Galaxy, we'll start doing some of the things that you regard as important, like pretending that consoles (most of which, I'd guess, stay in people's houses or get sold on rather than thrown away) are significantly responsible for climate change.'
Has anyone seen how expensive the new "green" MacBooks are? I think they were Ł799 before they were green, now they start at Ł949. Alright, they were already expensive, but in a world where everyone's feeling the pinch, does Green Peace expect companies to sacrifice sales for the sake of the planet? Very few are that responsible.
I bet GP conveniently ignored how energy efficient the Wii and DS are (though the DSi isn't as efficient as the DS Lite, thanks to the always-on WiFi).

No one is going to see this "drastic change", as it's not going to happen. Climate change has been exaggerated out of all proportion, mostly for political and financial goals. Greenpeace are now just another political movement, using the green agenda to get their own way.
