Xbox 360 system update out

But it doesn't add any new features, says MS
Note: Looking for BioShock 2? Click here. Or if you're here for Modern Warfare 2, click here.

A new Xbox 360 system update has just gone live, but before you crap yourself it adds pretty much nothing at all.

"A few minutes ago, the team released a system update for the Xbox 360 over Xbox Live. Sometime over the next few hours when you sign in to Xbox LIVE you'll receive a prompt to accept this mandatory update," Major Nelson alerts us.

"This update addresses interruption issues that some Xbox Live users may have experienced when playing a limited number of Xbox 360 games," Major adds.

"There are no other changes or enhancements in this update...in other words no new features."

There you are then. No new menus but hopefully Gears 2 won't be laggy anymore.

thats an anti piracy/modding patch if ever i saw one.

Ninendo keep pulling the same trick. firmware 3.3/3.4 were only made to stop the twighlight hack and its workaround. version 4.0 kills it compltely but also gives the machine a lot more functionality.

Its great having all my vc/wiiware games run off the sd. freed up the system memory no end.

Whoopdedoo Basil, but what does it all mean?

(search & replaces 'PS3' with 'Xbox')

There, saved you all the trouble.

A PS3 update goes up with a short list of new features, and everyone's bowels explode with rage at the thought of getting something new for free.

Microsoft releases an update for their paid service with no new features whatsoever, and nobody comments, because that's just fine and dandy.

I know. Xbox 360 owners wish that they had the abillity to text each other while playing games. So until Microsoft sort that one out we'll just have to talk to each other instead.

That makes no sense, seeing as it was mainly PS3 owners bitching about that update anyway.

I don't think you can make that distinction, really...

Both camps have their fair share of nonsense spewing retards who need to take a long look in the mirror and maybe outside to the real world too...

Things haven't changed since the Nintendo/Sega arguments in the playground back in the day...

The only truly sad thing is the "adults" that continue the argument until this very day but swopping it for the Xbox/PS diatribe.

That argument should stay where it belongs... amoungst small children. But alas, it doesn't.

yours and the 2 posts above it seem to be doing so.

the most problem people have with sony's updates is that they feel they should have been around from the start. personally i dont care as i only use online play and chat within that.

God I hope this sorts out the laaa a aa aaaaa aaaa ggg in BF:Bad Company.

Anyone know if they use their own servers or MS's?
Ragon on 2 Apr '09
I dont think ive even bothered looking into whats in an update for the 360 since ive had one since launch (apart from the NXE).

Maybe if compsnies didnt constantly update their systems it wouldnt give Gamers the chance to speculate what might be in it, only generally to be disappointed.

you know MS are a software company so its kind of expected.
On the other hand you could say MS should have had quality components from the start.

Aren't you a clever little man. I see "My First Sarcasm" was a good choice for the curriculum this year.

Xbox 360 owners wish...

I am an Xbox 360 owner. At what point did you assume I was not? Was it because I criticized the ridiculous levels of pro-Xbox fanboyism on this site? Some people are capable of owning a games machine and not worshiping it you know. Just because I am capable of criticism does not mean I hate the 360. Quite the contrary in fact.

But at what point did I say anything about chatting, text or otherwise? My comment was intended to point out the hypocrisy and lack of logic in fanboyism. Also the fact that this site has a disproportionate number of 360 fanboys, but I think most people have probably noticed that already.

PS3 gets patch, some updates - this is unacceptable
Xbox 360 gets patch, no updates whatsoever - this is fine
Illogical. But fanboyism never required much logic.

Also, you misspelled "ability". So you're right, text chat probably isn't for you. Have a nice day.

Get used to that. The PS3 is soooooo slooooow at updating.

I swear my Xbox updated to the NXE in about 1/4 of the time normal small update takes on the PS3.

ouch! 25 min!
damn man that could indeed be a pain in the A$$, and with a 20mb connection tht sux even more.
my 8mb hasnt ever let me down yet so i guess i've been lucky so far or mayb you do have a prob.
i was with Virgin b4 and while the bb was lightning quick when it was working it did cut off a lot and caused a crap load of gaming probs. was a while back though.

Just a shame the PS3 still hasn't caught up despite all the updates... shocking.

Silver members get the avatars too you know. The clothes are free and so far there has been no charge for using them.

Tell me, when do Sony start charging for extras in Second li.. sorry, home again?

you my friend are a prize plonker. the updates for the 360 and the avatars are available to all whether you pay or not. apparently ps3 owners are willing to pay extra for a premium console but think it strange for 360 owners to pay for a premium service. psn is not a premium service by the way.
pishers on 3 Apr '09

You mean like 'in game text chat'. Now if only the Xbox 360 had that.
steven_h1 on 3 Apr '09
for some reason, i find it to be fine when my 360 needs an update, i dont care at all. but when my ps3 needs a new update, i feel like throwing it at the wall.
now, this may have something to do with the fact that the ps3 uses about 35 to 40 minutes, while the 360 used the same number, only in seconds.

and if you pay Ł40 a year for LiveGOLD, you need to surf the net a little, you can easily shave at least a Ł10 of just by going to ebay.
if i had to pay the same amount for PSN, and get the same quality service as with LIVE, it wouldnt have bothered me the least bit. i would welcome it. bring it on sony!

I think both consoles suck, we should just go back to good old 1999 when it was ps1, n64 and dreamcast battling it out. *sighs* those were the days, the golden age of videogaming...

Ps3 updates slow? Well they're not on my ps3, i have a 60gb launch model, well i don't download them when theyre first released, i wait a few weeks or when a new game comes out and get it off the game disc seems to update faster that way

*gasp* but you're missing out on PSN games, online play yadda yadda yadda! How can you not feel a burning desire to play Warhawk? Laughing

^^This completely contradicts my earlier post above yours haha

I think the reason Sony get a hard time is because they spend a ton of time developing new features without fixing massive glaring problems they already have. (Such as dual audio output - a standard feature on even bog standard DVD players)

More to the point though, the new features are usually pointless. (Home / new Photo viewer / screen shots ?)

Please, please do something about the Secure HDCP Link Not Found error when trying to play certain DVDs.
