Ask a silly question and you'll always get a silly answer. Unless you're Sony asking if we want the first two God of War games to be included with a Collector's Edition version of GoW III. Yes please.
The Sony survey aims to find out what you think would make the ultimate Collector's Edition. Along with the usual selection of developer commentary and collectibles, Sony lists God of War 1 and 2 included on the Blu-ray as a possible choice.

PS2 machines can't read blu-ray discs, and the new PS3s can't play PS2 games. So in either case, they would be useless. The only people who could benefit are those that bought the original 60gb version of the PS3...
It'll be nice for those who never played the first two games (but begs the question of why they're starting with the third), unfortunately I still own the first two so it would just be a waste of that blu-rays considerable space for people like myself. Surely they should be cramming as much GoW3 onto that disk as possible before considering anything else?
Do bears s**t in the woods. hell yes i'd like 1&2 on the disc. It'd be like the collectors ed opf doom3 on the xbox, had every doom on the disc. great set of extras.
A model of kratos garotting a titan would also be great. as well as the usual artbook amking of ect ect.
@ iainbyoung, i think you've misunderstood somewhat. God of War 1&2 would be playable on the disc God of War 3 is on. more than likely accessed via an extras menu or some such.
Just completed the survey. My personal preferences for the collectors edition would be the aformentioned GOW 1 and 2 on Blu-Ray, an art book and comic. Not bottomd about t-shirts or figurines, tbh.
As for the previous games on Blu-Ray, it would be nice if they could HD them up. Maybe asking too much, but you never know.

Did you read the acticle? The games would be included on a blu-ray disc, making them playable on any PS3 system. And no one would be forcing you buy the collectors edition.
This may be the first collectors edition worth getting I didn't play the previous ones so if this comes to pass I will get it. Even if it means playing 2 ps2 games before playing a ps3 game but if they are half as good as people say it will be totally worth it.

I did read the article. It said tha games would be on the disc. It didn't say anything about rewriting them so that they will work with the new architecture of the PS3, (which suggests that they will only work on PS3s with built in PS2 emulation).
If they are planning on doing the work to get them working natively on the PS3 then fair enough, however this is likely to be a costly exercise (with little financial incentive for doing so). Also, I thought they already said they were pushing the blu-ray storage limits to the maximum for this game, so why do they need to fill the space with old code? I'm guessing it would be on a second disc...

Chill out. What would happen is that if this did go ahead, a specially adapted GOW 1&2 would be made that would work on PS3s that dont have backward compatibility. Either they would release it on a blu-ray (and maybe trophies) or a DVD release that would work on all PS2 and PS3 machines.
It would be great if they did this, as I've only played a bit of the first one and would like to catch up on the story without having to buy a PS2. Make it happen Sony!
I agree with everyone else though, you won't need a backwards compatible ps3 to play them
That's right. The Xbox 360 is powerful enough to emulate the original Xbox and the PlayStation 3 can certainly emulate the PS2. Sony have demonstrated this when they released a patch to make PS2 Singstar games work on the PS3. The reason they havent made all PS2 games do this is because they need to hang on to the profits the PS2 console is bringing in.

Thats actually a very good point.Sony themselves said that they hoped the recent ps2 price cut would give the wii a bit of competition. Just goes to show that the ps2 is still very important to them.
Whilst they're making GOW 1&2 for the PS3 is there any chance they could chuck in Chains of Olympus as well? I love the story in these games but I feel I've missed out on some by not owning a PSP.
I'd rather they restored backwards compatibility to current machines via a firmware update than seeing them update their old games to work on them.
I thought it was specific hardware, not software in the original 60gig PS3 that allowed backwards compatability? It was one of the things they removed from subsequent models to make them cheaper.

The original American/Japanese PS3s had the whold PS2 chipset on board. The launch EU PS3s had one of the 2 chips and could still run most PS2 games. Current PS3s do not have any PS2 chips, however they are purported to be powerful enough to emulate a PS2, in fact this was the plan before Sony launched the PS3. I think there will be a firmware upgrade to make them PS2 compatible but not for a couple of years.
