Sega classics confirmed for XBLA?

Comix Zone, Shinobi, Altered Beast...
More Sega classics have seemingly been confirmed for release on Xbox Live Arcade, including Shinobi and Comix Zone.

Xbox 360 Achievements have been discovered for Altered Beast, Shinobi and Comix Zone, somewhat heavily suggesting they're headed for the 360 download service.

There are plenty of Mega Drive ports already on the service of course, including Streets of Rage 2, Sonic the Hedgehog and Ecco the Dolphin, which puts further concrete on the news.

If you can't be arsed to wait for the retro rehashes to turn up, full compilation Mega Drive Ultimate Collection is also out there for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 and you can read our review of that right here.

a little TOO classic.

these games have had the ass whored out of them.

how about some tasty HD reworkings of saturn or dreamcast games sega?! stick them on PSN for a tenner each. had enough of the megadrive era already.

that would seem like too much work... but what else are they doing nowadays?!

they are sitting on amazing IPs yet are a publishing joke.

how about some reworked -

NiGHTS
shenmue
virtual on
fighting vipers
sonic (2D cell shaded)
virtua cop

You'd at least think they would release games that werent on the Megadrive collection.

Theres only one retro collection Ive been interested in recently at that was on the PS store. It was called EA Megadrive classics and it had Road Rash, Desert Strike, FIFA etc. but guesse what? It only worked with a PSP (On which you can download all those games for free easily anyway) I bet they sold barely any of them. If they had let it work on the PS3 I would have bought it in a flash.

Altered Beast?

the headline said 'classics'...
FlimFlam on 20 Apr '09
Will there be anymore articles today with a question as the headline?
voodoo341 on 20 Apr '09
Who knows?

All I want is Sonic 3 & Knuckles, damnit!

Yeh there are some really good games there SVD, even if only Shenmue was released on live or PSN I would send thank you letters to SEGA personally, but if NiGHTS was released (the original saturn version im guessing SVD?) then good lord, words can not describe how happy I would be!
le_don on 20 Apr '09
It would be nice to see the Resident Evil series on XBLA and PSN in the Euro regions and how about some more Ultimate games, now they're real classics.
spooney100 on 20 Apr '09
And where is Shadow Dancer?

And where is Shadow Dancer?
i'd love both the arcade and megadrive versions of this(both were different, the same as E-SWAT). its a toss up between those or Shinobi 2 as to what was the best in the series and the dog just pushed it for me.

still say either Sega Rally or Daytona should be next on sega's list though.

The ESRB also rated Sonic The Hedgehog 3 for XBLA months ago

yeah they not long ago made a ps2 NiGHTS in japan which looked better than the saturn original..

but id like a new PSN 1080p version. would be gorgeous.

There are a few old Megadrive games I would like, but these ones are pants. Altered Beast was crap when it first came out, and isn't likey to get many downloads.

Give me the Strike Series, with updated graphics, same with the Streets of rage. And how about Thunderforce or Hellfire?old school shoot em ups would be perfect for the PSN Network.

Dont get me started about the lack of a Sensible Soccer game on PSN either...
Rollingthunder on 20 Apr '09
Come on MS!

More original games, less classic games please!

Most classic games are free on the net now.

you could always play the nights 2 on the wii. longer than the original and just as fun. motion cotrol adds a lot to the experience too.

i thought virtua on was already being released on XBLA too.

Be good if they'd bring out toe jam and earl, shen mue 2 and crazy taxi 3 on live as well.

Shame they turned down plans for a jet set radio sequel on the wii that would of be awesome.

Ah well back to overkill and madworld.
WHERESMYMONKEY on 20 Apr '09
Loved Toe-Jam & Earl back in the day. Perfect little game for 400MS points that would be.
ginsin on 20 Apr '09
Daytona HD please! That would be a scream online.

Nights on the Wii was not a patch on the original.

personally i quite liked nights on the wii. It was more of the same pretty much.

Hqave a feeling though that alot more of segas series reboots i'll come to the wii than the 360 or ps3.

So far we'v had nights, HOTD and a port of ghost recon.

Be great if they made crazy taxi 4 for the wii. it'd be the perfect fit. not sure we'll see another toe jam and earl though.

HOTD looks ace! I'll be heading to my mates this weekend to have a go. I agree with you on the Wii getting more ports though, Dreamcast games have the right look IMO. Although JSRF HAS to come to 360.
Black Mantis on 20 Apr '09
Yeah we want some classic arcade titles redone in HD and online:

-Daytona USA
-Sega Rally series
-SCUD Race
-Harley Davidson
-Planet Harriers
-Motor Raid

Also what happened to Afterburner Climax and HOTD4 for consoles?...
FunkYellowMonkey on 20 Apr '09
sega rally's already had a hd update for the 360, not sure if it came out on the ps3. No bugger bought it. just go to your nearest bargain bin you should be able to pick it up for a fiver.

I'd love to see a new comix zone. 3d ish side scrolling. like viewtiful joes was. with the same bands from the original doing new tracks. I've still got the cd that came with the original MD cartridge somewhere. Best game soundtrack ever.

it came out on PS3 as well.
but i'd still rather play the originals with a HD spit and polish and both splitscreen and online play. they've still never bettered the original tracks from the arcade and Saturn versions.

a version of JSR and Crazy Taxi wouldn't go amiss either
ensabahnur on 20 Apr '09
XBL needs Road Rash-The series

That is all
