2K: BioShock 3 could return to Rapture

Underwater city is "one of the characters we don't want to let go"
The third BioShock game could once again return to Rapture as a setting, 2K Marin's creative director, Jordan Thomas has said.

Speaking in an interview with OXM, the BioShock 2 boss said that the underwater city is "one of the characters we don't want to let go.

"I think Rapture remains fertile for as much expansion as a team sees in it," he explained, when quizzed on Rapture's future in the series.

"I absolutely believe that there might be future games set in Rapture in whatever time period, but I would also say that I think that the Bioshock brand is big enough that it could evolve."

For more of Thomas's musings, read the full interview over on OXM.

wow the bioshock 2 idea is barely in its infancy and theyre talking about bioshock 3? this is nothing but a complete and utter violation of an amazing and artistic imagination. its shocking, have some f**king dignity.

I think Rapture remains fertile for as much expansion as a team sees in it,

Haha! I wonder how hard he had to think before coming to that conclusion.

If Rapture turns out barren after being violated repeatedly they could always come up with a new setting. How about Rape-ture?
Erken on 6 May '09
He may as well have said "GTAV" may have some violence in it, or "Tomb Raider (whatever-number-we're-on) may have Lara Croft in it".

Surely Bioshock IS about Rapture?? That's what I thought was so great about the first one and what I'm looking forward to in the new one. Take away Rapture and you just have another FPS

This was a crappy piece of news, it was covered already in one of CVG's other Bioshock 2 related news snippets..

Meaning we're going to keep exploiting it until the series goes stale.

well i wasn't expecting it to be anywhere else

but its saying it could return to Rapture as though number 2 ISN'T set in Rapture

have i missed something?

They should do a prequel for the third game. I would love to see a vibrant fully operational Rapture...before all the s*** happens.

The Bioshock 2 idea is complete. If it was in its infancy it wouldn't be coming out in a few months time.

Not convinced a Rapture in its prime would be a good setting for a game. Part of the atmosphere is the ruined state of an ideology gone wrong...
HotRabbit on 6 May '09
mmm bioshock. rapture is the most stylish and atmospheric place ever created in video games.
Sinthetic on 6 May '09
They better evolve the franchise beyond Rapture. #3 being in the same place will surely kill the franchise. They need some bold new ideas. A world where the greatest minds on Earth created an underwater city surely has more to tell....

I'd love to see a proper FPS game set in rapture, say in the near future, two factions fighting over the remains of the city. Very Happy
