Nintendo has reported record highs for both sales and operating profit in the fiscal year ended March 31, 2009.
Net sales rose 9.9 percent to more than 1.83 trillion yen as operating profit swelled 14 percent to over 555 billion yen.
Worldwide Wii sales hit almost 26 million units during the year, taking the system's lifetime sales total to over 50 million, while over 31 million DS sales took life-to-date sales of the portable beyond the 100 million mark.
Software sales were up for both platforms, with 204 million Wii titles and 197 million DS games shifted.
For the current fiscal year ending March 31, 2010, Nintendo said it expects sales and profits to drop, to 1.8 trillion yen and 490 billion yen.
In that period the company expects to sell a further 26 million Wii systems and 220 million software units, while Nintendo DS sales are projected at 30 million systems and 180 million pieces of software.
Good numbers. Let's hope that they put that money to good use and bring out a couple of quality in-house games, rather than more 'life improving' software.

Yes, the Wii could rather do with some triple A titles by the end of the year.
I cant say anymore than has been said already. Lets see some good games for the Wii. I am trying to want to use it, but I still dont see anything that makes me want to get it back from my brother.
wow. the wiis definately on track to eclipse the life time sales of the PS2 and then some.
Maybe. The Wii is 70 million behind the PS2 though it's only been out for roughly a third of the amount of time the PS2 has. However, this in itself does not guarantee continued sales in an amount that will surpass the PS2. The DS seems far more likely to break the 120 million figure of the PS2 as it "only" needs to shift another 20 million units.
Their 2010 forcasts are interesting. They expect sales to say more or less the same (1.83 to 1.8 trillion Yen) but operating profit will take a knock (555 billion to 490 billion). That's probably because they expect costs to rise or are they planning a price cut?
feck me,,, i don't know what i'd be more excited about, new zelda or new pikmin. the 2 are far and beyond better than anything. *daydreams* not long to wait now anyway.
And to think that Nintendo are thinking of rising the prices for both the DS and the Wii The bare-faced cheek of them, disgraceful. I'll never buy either of them, just get an emulator for both instead.
Your just a retarded little c**k aren't you Wiiboy.
Care to back any of that up with proof, and while your at it explain why Nintendo push UP the price of the Wii to retailers when they are making huge profits?
come on give the retard a break. He's actually right for once. The PS2 was a shoddily built piece of crap. But the games were awesome so we all happily bought one and then got a replacement if it died. I'm so far on my 3rd and when that dies i'll get a 4th.
Its why Sony fans ranting about the fail rate of the 360 just smacks of hypocricy, when the company they love so much up untill this point have given us incredibly fault prone hardware. Unlike MS who have put thier hands up and said 'we f**ked up' Sony have never done so with either the psone or 2.
i dunno about the counting replacements as sales things, but i'd havard a guess that at least 5% of the total sales of ps2s are replacements.
If you want hardy machine you can't go wrong buying nintendo. i've never had one break down on me yet.
