The sequel to Wii launch title Red Steel will only support Wii MotionPlus, meaning you won't be able to play it using just a regular Wii Remote.
"It's a huge risk," said the game's creative director, Jason Vandenberghe. "We have no idea what the penetration rate for Wii MotionPlus will be. We assume high. We would like it to be high.
"I would love to say to you that it'll be compatible with just a regular controller, but the gameplay simply isn't there without MotionPlus. That core experience just isn't there without it," he added, speaking in the latest issue of Nintendo Power (via Nintendo Dpad).
Nintendo's motion-sensing MotionPlus peripheral will release next month, promising to deliver "more comprehensive tracking of a player's arm position and orientation, providing players with an unmatched level of precision and immersion".
Sword and gunplay action sequel Red Steel 2 will be launching in time for Christmas.
I have a feeling they've kicked themselves in the nuts. They'll have to bundle the two together at a discounted price surely.
I think that as long as they could not have got close to good enough gameplay without the motion plus then they have made a good decision, I would rather it be a great game. However I do agree that they need to release a pack with the motion plus included.
There's no point making Red Steel 2 half bottomd in terms of controls. Ubi Soft should make it the best they can. Bundling the game with WMP is possibly one of its best chances. EA are bundling their games with WMP so Ubi can do the same..
It also remains to be seen how big Wii Sports Resort becomes or even the aformentioned EA games. I reckon a lot of people may quite possbily invest in WMP through buying those games.

Does Wii Sports Resort come out first? If so they'll be fine as that will sell shed-loads.
I think it is the right decision. Do a pack with and without the motion+ for people who get it with an EA game instead. It is a risk, but I reckon it will be worth it. Make the game the best it can be is what I say.
I think ubisoft have made the right decision, Why make the game have a half baked control scheme and then Have motion + options. It'd just make it feel tacked on rather than a core part of the gameplay.
Its good news for motion+ too because if there are decent apps that require the add on to be playable people are going to buy it.
I do agree that bundling games with the M+ is the best way to go too. it'll encourage people to buy it in the first place and make it at least seem less expensive to get one for each remote. If i got given red steel2 with an M+ in the box for crimbo i'd be more than happy.
What i think'll be interesting to see is whether other companies will take this route and wheter nintendo will eventually bundle Motion+ with the wii and a cop of wii sports resort, rather than wii sports.
I think some serious psychoanalysis is definitely needed
I think when he says it's not the same experience without M, he just means that the level of control just won't be there. So unless the game doesn't let you play if you don't have M+ plugged in, it could still work but just not as well.
The pentration of M+ in the market could be very high indeed, and with the EA bundles and Wii Resort people may even have more than one.
Anyone who is interested in this game will know they have to get M+ anyway, who would want to play it without? especially after the poor performance of the first game.
The prices of Wii controllers are way too high in my view. I for one won't be getting a motion plus controller unless there are a good number of titles which require the feature already released...and i think this is going to be some time off happening.
Seriously man, they somehow managed to market a Gamecube with motion controls and make it into the top selling console in the world. A massive achievement in itself.
They are now going to use games to market the new premium priced peripherals.
How long do you think it is when ALL Wii games are motion-plus only? Or at least when all people who consider themselves a 'real' gamer and own a Wii (a massive contradiciton in itself xD) will have to buy the motion plus for the more advanced games, and the 'casual' (read mindless) consumer can carry on have the faecal matter that gets put into packaging for the Wii.

And Sony have managed to market a media encoder chip with joypads.....
You argument is ridiculous. Do you not buy new pcs or macs due to them being a powered up version of an older machine? Or will you say the same of the PS4 when it will most likely be a powered up PS3?
Real gamers by the way do not worry about the consoles, it is all about the games and Wii has some great games.

The EA games come out first in June, whereas Wii Sports Resort hits here in July. Both are long before Red Steel is out, so yeah, plenty of time to sell enough WMPs

They could do a non-Motion Plus control scheme without sacrificing gameplay, but it would require additional development time and potential delay.
What would be best for the consumer would be a version with the peripheral, and one without, exactly like Nintendo of Europe didn't do with the expansion pak for the N64 with Donkey Kong 64 and Perfect Dark.
At least they're giving it half a year after motion plus' release before they ship out their game. Releasing it on launch day for motion plus would be the most ridiculous idea.
I think its safe to say we'll be seeing more motion plus only games in the near future...
Theres no point in making a this game for a normal Wii mote because it just wouldnt work properly so you need to have Motion plus. Wheres the problem with that?????
