GoldenEye man sill hopes for GoldenEye VC

Admits it's highly unlikely to ever happen though
Martin Hollis, one of the original designers of N64 classic GoldenEye, has told Official Nintendo Magazine that he'd love to see his old shooter appear Virtual Console, even though he admits it'll probably never happen.

As has been mentioned many times previously, it seems that legal issues are what will prevent it from ever being re-released through Nintendo's download service (or even Xbox Live for that matter).

"There's always someone with some exclusivity agreement, so there's lots of lawyers... I'm not going to hold my breath. I'd love it to happen, but I can't see it," Hollis told ONM.

There's more of Hollis reliving the old days as well as discussing his new WiiWare game, Bonsai Barber, in issue 43 of Official Nintendo Magazine, on sale now.

Can't Nintendo just use some of the gazillions of pounds they've made with the Wii and buy all the rights? Then they could re-vamp the graphics a bit, add online multiplayer and make a killing on VC.

I could see the two or three people left in the world who haven't already got a Wii going out and getting one just to play that.

Ah, curse you wishful thinking for toying with my emotions so...

Nintendo, Activision, and Microsoft need to work something out, I would love to see GoldenEye on the VC AND XBLA. I'd buy it twice.

GoldenEye was certainly good at the time, and for a long time afterwards. But I played it not so long ago at a party, and I was quite disappointed. Multiplayer has certainly come a long way since then.

Virtual Console? That makes no sense.
Goldeneye is a video game, it has no business on Wii.

That enhanced Xbox Live version will be fine thanks.

it says a lot about gaming on a nintendo console that one of the original designers of the classic Goldeneye is about to release a game called Bonsai Barber.
TeamVance on 13 May '09
plays like an absolute dog nowadays. its not just the graphics that they'd need to overhaul.

it has aged really badly. thats probably the reason they dont want it out. ruin many a cherished memory.

its s**te now, but was amazing at the time and paved the way for the best genre of console game, in my opinion.

R.I.P.

I too dug this out and gave it a quick blast about a month ago, it really isn't anywhere near as good as we all remember it.

Let's just leave this game to linger fondly in our memories, i wish i had, as now i'm a bit upset at just how badly it's aged Crying or Very sad

Nah GoldenEye is still king, I still want it, with updated controls, dual anaolgue for the 360, and pointer controls would be awesomem for the Wii, I really don't mind the graphics, XBLA has Doom in its orginal form after all. Oh well, I'll have to do with Perfect dark for now.
YCshinobi on 13 May '09
i thought because Nintendo wouldnt let this happen(even though a VC and XBLA version would of made sense but as usual Nintendo would rather be t**ts)

i thought that Rare had taken out all referances to JAMES BOND and Goldeneye..with the game engine and crap which is RAREs they have just redone it with another name

the picture of it was on that guys gamercard when you showed the Perfect dark gamertile on the xblprofile the other week

maybe 'Bean' or a name like that

no, goldeneye isnt still king. look around. its mince today, thats what happens. take off the spectacles.

what your asking for is a completely different game.
svd_grasshopper on 13 May '09
many of the posts are correct above imo. i love fps and at the time goldeneye was king. i play it now on an n64 emu and even with tweaked controls and hi res graphics it just dosn't cut it any more. the only decent thing is the amount of cctv cameras to avoid and still the shere amount of stealth needed to complete the levels. no game has come close to this apart from the IGI series on the pc (they would make excelent consol conversions).play cod4 after and you'll see what i mean. Why are people comparing Goldeneye with todays current games?

It's a retro game now we all know games have advanced

Exactly. It's a classic, it should be welcomed as much as any other VC and XBLA title, if not more so.
YCshinobi on 13 May '09
How is this any different from other retro games? Of course it is better in our memories, but it was a milestone in console gaming & should have a place alongside all the other retro games on offer.

Then they could re-vamp the graphics a bit, add online multiplayer and make a killing on VC.

This is Nintendo and concerning VC, that wouldn't happen. They'd just stick it on there with GameCube/Classic Controller support only with nothing else changed, not even upping it to 60hz like the Yanks have.

If it was on XBLA then there'd be more chance of the graphics being polished and online multiplayer being added as well as possibly a few new other features.

What are you on about you t**t??? you're probably disappointed due to getting your ass whipped.

Goldeneye was the most groundbreaking and influential game in its generation. So strong it still influences FPS genre to this day, influences can even be seen in Crysis to Killzone 2.

On its release Goldeneye was in a different league and even at the end of its console generation it stood head on shoulders on every console FPS. At our digs at uni we have a ps3, an n64 and a ps1. Guess which game is mostly played?? Goldeneye. Though we have our n64 hooked up via gold plated s-video lead which provides an extremely sharp, colourful and vivid picture on TV unlike the rubbish pathetic excuse for leads Nintendo provide with all their consoles.

You will probably find very few people with your thinking, its a pity that SO CALLED HD graphics are all people judge a game by these days. Goldeneye to me still looks impressive, its beyond anything in its era and first and foremost proves gameplay is still king.
