According to a Treyarch designer's online CV, Call Of Duty 7 is already being worked on. Ta-da!
The profile is that of a Senior Animator at Treyarch, which reveals (even though it probably shouldn't): "I am currently on my second title as a senior animator in the games industry with Activision / Treyarch on Call Of Duty 7."
Not really a massive shocker that and we hope no one gets into trouble over it. Begs the question though, how much don't you want Call Of Duty 7 to be set in World War II? Or for it to feature dogs?

Personally, I'm sick of all the dissing that Treyarch receives. I loved CoD:WaW, especially the Soviet levels, so I can't wait for the next one. (CoD3 was pish though.)
I much preferred Treyarch's visceral approach, which MW2 is copying, and I also enjoyed the single player campaign. But I'm not sure we need another CoD game so soon...one every year is overkill.
People complain about Treyarch because the company ridesoff the success of the Call of Duty brand and the skill of Infinity Ward's engine and some of their ideas. Added to that, they'd revisited WWII again, when gamers are tired of this setting. WAW would have barely sold a copy had it been in direct competition with any other military shooter. So I think they've left themselves totally open to critism and all the comments I've read about them are founded and fair. They don't care, they have a contract for life it seems producing Call of Duty games.
As harsh as it sounds I actually wish Treyarch had gone under because of this economic climate rather than some of the other studios.
So whether they visit WWII again, or move the series to another location/battle, I don't care. Have it play out in space, in Vietnam, or in WWI, the fact is it's going to play out on other people's console's, not mine. I've brought two very disappointing games from this studio, and I think I've finally learnt my lesson.
..whats so wrong with World at war...??...it looks good, plays good and online has been a massive hit.....the Call of Duty series is supposed to be set in the second world war.
...i like cod4 just as much but can't understand the constant dissing of world at war

it looks good because of infinity ward. the online was developed by infinity ward too.
and no, CoD doesnt have to be set in WWII.
if that was the case were gonna run out of wars soon.

I agree, i loved the single player in WAW, and as for the multiplayer, it was the same as COD4 which is great if you enjoy the 100mph headless chicken run'n'gun style gameplay.
The WW2 setting is probably the best if done right, and i still think COD2 is the finest single player experience of them all.
It's just become fashionable to knock WW2 which is a shame.
Maybe off the back of the COD4 release, but off the back of the MW2 trailer, why?
I know I wasn't the only one hoping it had become Infinity only.
No disrespect to Treyarch, I'd just rather they made their own series, I'd probably buy that too, I just hate the feeling of having amazing COD. Good COD. Amazing COD. Good COD. etc etc.
Oh god what has happened to this site, "I dont like treyarch, they just rip off Infinatyward!" If i recall Iw asked treyarch to get involved. COD 3 was crap because of the time limits but WaW was a good addition to franchise. I dont mind anohter ww2 setting either. You Iw fanboys go stand in fornt of a bus. Oh well back to the Escapist with me.

Theyre f**king c**ts, thats why they get hated on. The only reason WaW turned out half-decent was because they had COD4 to completely rip the f**k out of. When it comes to anything original like Quantum of Solace, they churn out complete s**te. They need to take a step back and look at the crap that they obviously think is acceptable. w****r.
I enjoyed WaW almost as much as Modern Warfare, the Russian campaign's final levels were stunning. Apparently my opinion is absolutely false and Treyarch is Satan if popular opinion is to be believed.
World at War was tripe. Shameless rip off of CoD4, which they tried to dodge by setting it back in WW2. Wake up Treyarch. IW's tech, IW's graft, IW's ingenuity. Plus, everyone is sick of WW2. It's been done to death. Jeez, they couldn't even come up with an original setting. Shameless coattail riders.
Why now? Well if you remember a while back, the two studio's had a bit of a spat. The head of IW called the head of Treyarch a 'f**king douchebag' and basically dissed him and his contribution to the franchise. Fair call if you ask me, the guy was talking it up like he invented Call of Duty or something.
Anyway, what better way to p!ss on Infinity Ward's chips than to 'acidentally' announce the next Treyarch game just as the hype machine starts rolling for Modern Warfare 2? Exactly.
Thats fantastic, great to hear. In my view, it would be stupid not to make another WAW if it is set in WW2, it sold great, third fastest selling game in the UK, millions sold across the world etc, beating Cod 4 in places. Modern Warfare 2 certainly has the chance to be best-selling this year, and i fell this also has a good chance whatever year it comes out.
Modern Warfare 2 is likely to be competing with a new ArmA, Operation Flashpoint and Rainbow Six amongst others. Not that it'll particularly suffer as each of the games has their respective fans, and many of us are likely to buy most of these anyhow. World at War wasn't surrounded by half as much competition, and certainly gained a massive percentage of it's sales from Modern Warfare, and as others have mentioned Infinity Wards game engine and some features. Even so, Modern Warfare has remained a popular online game even though it's pretty old now. I very much doubt anyone will play WAW online in six months. And I'm convinced if WAW were to be released with so much competition it's sales would have been very low.
Obviously I'm not fan of Treyarch, but not because it's fashionable, but because I've been incredibly disappointed with their last two Call of Duty games, and like many, I'm utterly bored with WWII games. It's surely a sign of the times too that those old guns in WAW essentially felt like modern weapons because old guns just aren't as good as modern ones. Treyarch even dropped scope wobble to make the game feel more arcadey and accessible to all.
Personally I'd like to have seen another studio handle the next Call of Duty after Modern Warfare 2. Treyarch have had their chance. Thanks for nothing, now let's see what another developer can bring to the franchise.
I personally thought CoD: W@W was ok with great online play. But activision are quickly becoming the new EA....churning out CoD sequels every year same goes for guitar hero. Surely they would be better off leaving things to Infinity ward to make a game every 2 years and letting treyarch do other stuff. Unfortunately the games make to much money for this to happen.
ffs y cant activision jus leave treyarch alone and leave the cod series to the proffesionals of Infinity Ward. 99% of ppl dont want ww1, ww2 or any other old fashiond stuff jus keep it modern or a bit in the future like advanced warfighter coz advaned warfighter wasnt a big hit so i fink if infinity ward woz 2 do sumthing like dat it would b an immense game,
lol ... did half of you haters even play WAW? It was a perfectly fine game, yes not quite as good as COD4 but still very respectable. If WAW had been made exactly the same by IW you same people would most likely be lapping it up
WAW had its faults, like enemies spamming super-accurate grenades, lack of a particularly engaging story, set in WW2 etc.... but it was still a reasonably entertaining game. If they sorted out a few problems and glitches with the levels, like me getting done by grenades through walls, and had an actually good story.....
Oh, and better Dogs than a Helicopter. Yeah, I said it.
I hope CoD 7's single player isn't a pale imitation of MW2's like W@W was to 4.....Like the sniper mission, could have been as good as all ghillied up, but about a quarter of the way through it just gave itself away to old movie cliches that we've seen before....
I can understand all the coments against Treyarch because I also think along the same lines of W@W = s**t. BUT as we have all seen, the world economy is goin down the crapper and most ENTERTAIMENT companies let alone gaming companies will just release tried and tested prodects, for instance Hollywood is remaking SOMANY films that it is unbelieveable! Activision knows that CoD sells big bucks and so why the f**k would they put multiple millions of dollars on the line to make a new IP that may well not get the buying power that CoD has. We've seen this happen with EA last year, they relese Dead Space and Mirrors Edge to get two possible new franchises running but they were only ever OK games. I will never go back to Dead Space coz it was a bit boring and repetative, and Mirrors Edge just gave me rage and pointed out to me why I don't play platform Games whether they be in an FPS perspective or not.
At the end of the day if you don't want anymore WWII games then don't buy them if a franchise turns into a flop then it gets axed, you as a consumer has the power to decide what does and does not get made.
Hey grasshopper, unfortunately, due to human nature, there are way too many wars for Treyarch to choose from including the war for oil that continues to this day in Irak but I do agree with what most people have posted in this thread re Treyarch's facsimile of an Infinity Ward game. To their credit, perhaps Treyarch's contract stated that WaW had to be made in that way, as Infinity Ward, no doubt did not have the resourses to make WaW in that time-frame. Here's hoping any future CoD release from Activision has an option to play it in THIRD person(even tho it's an fps). Anyways, I'm off to enjoy the inFAMOUS demo again
Ferocious Swans comment - the voice of all reason! I totally agree WAW was a fine game. Too many people decided it was crap before it was even released purely because it wasnt produced by IW. It`s a shame because all of you have missed out on what is a great online game. Yes the single player isnt quite as good as COD4`s but dont knock it if you havnt tried it. How many other studios use the Unreal engine for their games - and yet they dont get knocked for ripping off the technology. At the end of the day its down to personal preferance and at the moment I`m playing WAW more tan COD4 - so stick that in your pipe and smoke it!
I'm not sure why so many people are defending Treyarch all of a sudden, when their additions to the CoD series have been mediocre, at best. I thought that was pretty much consensus, not opinion... And yes, I did play them.
I for one will make the only decision that has any impact: I will no longer buy any CoD's not coming straight from IW.
I was sick of WW2 when COD first came out. WAW instilled the interest again. First one of the franchise to do it. COD4 was good, but WAW is much better.
Only real thing that let WAW down was f**k all hardcore modes.
And all those people who recon a Veitnam COD will be made. Are you kidding? America lost, theres no way in hell they'd let a game made of it
Oh, and dogs FTW. You pussies with your helicopters .
The only reason people bought WAW was because of what they expected, after MW everyone though "WOW THIS IIS GUNNA BE GREAT" yeah i did enjoy WAW, butt it wasnt the kinda game i could just keep playing over and over which i can with both MW's. Im not saying Treyarch are rubbish cause i did have alot of fun playing WAW but i really think that Call Of Duty's should be left to IW.
i think its great how two different development companies alternate on COD games. Instead of having to wait two or more years for MW3 we get something to wet our appetite in between just like WAW did for MW2.
I think that cod 3 was terrible and im sure people reading this would agree but WAW that was also failure because ww2 has be killed now by cod but treyarch because there so clever they decide to make another and i think its one of the worst ww2 games ive ever played, but hopfully they've relised that we want something different
