Sony mulls over digital PSP rentals

New survey gauges consumer interest in subscription-based PSP service
Sony appears to be considering a downloadable rental service for PSP games.

According to a recently uncovered survey, the service would be subscription-based and feature an extensive catalogue of games.

The survey notes that users would be able to download a fixed number of games during their subscription period, which could be "weekly, monthly or some other time period".

"You will be able to change the games you have chosen for the download once your subscription period renews," it adds, according to Joystiq, "At launch there will be an extensive catalogue of games to choose from, with more titles being added to the catalogue each month."

Rumours of a UMD free PSP have been doing the rounds recently, with speculation suggesting a new, download-only handheld could be unveiled by Sony at June's E3 event.

How would it make any easier dumbass.

This is a great idea, So long as the fees are reasonable. I wouldn't mind paying a set fee if i could download all the psp games i wanted direct to my psp legally. Saves a lot of faffing around for your average guy.

Playing illegal copies on any machine is a lot of bloody effort. It can feel rewarding too. but if games companies can make a legitamate, easy and relitively cheap way for people to be able to play more games i'm right behind it.

What companies need to realise is that people that pirate software aren't the enemy they are potential customers. Sony so far this gen i'd say have a had the right atitude towards combatting piracy. They've made the consoles region free, makes importers like myself happy and less liekely to want to hack thier hardware and they used a new and form of disposable media and are now looking for a posiutive solution to the psps download problems.

As much as i like the wii i have to say nintendos stand against piracy has been like trying to crack a nut with a sledgehammer. Putting flashcard companies out of business and charging double for people that have softmodded thier consoles while still under warrenty is attrocious.

I don't know what you call 'reasonable' but I don't think this is it:

CVG should add that screenshot too >_>

No thanks, I like to own my games, I don't like rentals, never did and never will.

If it was 15 games a month for a year that would come to 180 game rentals a year. Is there even 180 games available in the first place? And 20 games a week?! WTF
