If you purchased Unreal Tournament III at retail you can enter your retail key by using the "Activate a product on Steam" feature in the Steam client, and Steam will automatically update you to Unreal Tournament 3 Black for free. Sweet deal.

"During the previous Free Weekend of Unreal Tournament 3 Black on Steam, the game claimed the number one spot on the bestseller list, and simultaneous player numbers jumped by more than 2000%," says Epic.

"Unreal Tournament 3 Black now also includes the recently released Patch 2.1 with even more fixes and upgrades such as award progress when using custom maps and characters, mod support enhancements, various gameplay tweaks and bug fixes, and additional user interface improvements," it adds.

The game's available for free pre-load right now, so you don't waste any play time when the action kicks off. Get on it.

I love Steam. I will definitely be giving Unreal 3 a go.
Home-brew on 27 May '09
yeah it's only a 10gig download...
spam23 on 27 May '09
If you already bought it and enter the key on steam, then valve update you to black for free, is this only for the weekend?

Will the expansion stop working afterwards and leave you with the standard one again?
Serenity on 27 May '09
The expansion will not stop working, the content was released for free.
Sir_Squiggles on 27 May '09
Actually the download is around 4GB, Steam uses heavy compression.
jon_hill987 on 27 May '09
Does a 2000% sale rise matter if it's free?

Maybe I read it wrong...
The Kool Kid on 28 May '09
Yep, you read it wrong:
"player numbers jumped by more than 2000%"
Because they were playing it for free. They didn't buy it.

4gig DL isn't that bad, but it takes up 10gig of drive space! Biggest program I currently have installed.
spam23 on 28 May '09
UT3 takes up 25 gigs on my PC because of all the custom content Razz

I should really clean up that folder...
