EA's passed over a fact sheet for FIFA 10 that pretty much tells you everything you need to know about the latest version of its annual footy game. According to EA it "features core gameplay refinements based on responsiveness and intelligence, plus a completely overhauled Manager Mode that includes more than 50 major improvements."
Here are 13 key facts:
360 Dribbling-The first-ever true 360 dribbling system in a football game provides finer dribbling control, enabling players to find spaces between defenders that previously were not possible.
Skilled Dribbling-All-new animation warping technology provides unprecedented control. Skilled players now have the ability to face a defender and use highly-responsive lateral dribbling to skip past him.
Freedom in Physical Play-Wider dribble touches and new collision sharing creates a varied, less predictable, and extended fight for possession between the dribbler and a defender.
Player Urgency-Improved urgency AI logic, with over 50 new movement cycles, delivers more responsive positioning so your players stay focused on the ball and move at a speed appropriate to the action.
Improved Trapping Intelligence -Players now have a better awareness of where the easiest, most natural trapping position is so they can get the ball on the ground and under control easier and earlier.
Advanced Positioning -Defenders multi-task and play the pitch more intelligently by covering dangerous spaces left by out-of-position teammates. In attack, players analyze space more effectively, curve their runs to stay onside, create passing lanes and vary attacking options.
More Accurate Passing -Players better analyze space resulting in pinpoint passes that give their receivers more options and time to outrun defensive pressure.
Authentic Shooting -Refinements to the shooting system and modifications of the ball physics create a wider, more realistic variety of shots that enhance the exhilaration of scoring.
Varied Defending Options -Slide Tackle targeting has been enhanced so skilled players have more reach and avoid tackling through the dribbler. Better effort clearance logic gives defenders more options when attempting to get a foot on the ball before an attacker. Effort, such as sliding to block crosses and overhead kick clearances, give defenders more tools to prevent goal-scoring opportunities.
Refined Goalkeeper Intelligence - numerous improvements mean that goalkeepers now have more urgency and better perception of where to intercept loose balls, resulting in a more responsive and powerful rushing system. New animation warping technology provides game-realistic goalkeeper positioning and momentum, resulting in more varied scoring opportunities.
Manager Mode Authenticity-More than 50 major improvements were designed to create an authentic experience to mimic the real-world game. Match results are based on team and player strengths and weaknesses. Player transfers are determined by multiple decision points, including club finance and prestige, availability of similar players, and competition from AI-controlled clubs. Player development is more realistic with true-to-life growth curves based on factors such as age and environment.
Continuous Gameplay- Maintain the atmosphere, pace, and intensity of a match with quick free kicks and referee carding.
New Practice Arena-Work on individual skills in a fully featured practice mode before stepping on the pitch.
That's an impressive list of features, but I won't make a decision until I try the demo. Have to say Konami have it all to do to get my money this year though.
After thoroughly enjoying Fifa 09, I have no doubts about buying Fifa 2010. I don't honestly know how they have found so many improvements for an already cracking footy game.
i dunno the true dribbling system sounds like its going to be a nightmare to control your player, like playing on a ice rink! thou maybe I'm wrong! I'll be getting PES 2010 whatever the improvements!
Football games need 360 control, I get fed up of only running in 8 directions (apart from on Kick Off 2: The Final Whistle) and I might as well be playing on a dpad.
I'm sure they will have some balance on the controls though, because I don't like the ice rink thought at all!
However heatuk10, I would implore you to try FIFA10. If PES/FIFA carry on in 2010 as they did for 2009, you would be denying yourself a brilliant football game if you didn't give it a bash. Plus better graphics, all the teams etc etc.
Or perhaps you're like my mate and you just can't stop getting in on goal and pressing cross instead of shoot?!?!

Wait, so let me get this straigth: You're trying to convince someone to play a game which has NO coverage at all apart from a just released fact sheet praising it as an even better game than its predecessor?
You're either an extremely stupid & loyal Fifa fan or you work for EA

No need to roll the eyes; you just haven't got it 'straight', holmes.
As I said, IF both games keep moving in the same directions they have done over the last couple of years, then someone buying PES2010 over FIFA2010, no matter what the improvements, is shooting themself in the foot slightly by not even TRYing it.
Perhaps you should have read my post a little more clearly before you hit the submit button.
Edit: although possibly 'implore' is a bit strong; recommend would have been better!
I bought every PES game until last year, always ripping into the FIFA fanboys until FIFA 09. What a game that is! I cannot wait to see what this 360 dribbling is like. PES just feels arcade like since jumping to ps3/360.
I'd like them to add dodgy decisions. Every time in 09 if you foul or are offside,it's the correct decision. Imagine playing online 0-0 and a few minutes to go and sending a perfect throughball only to be flagged for offside, you'd be raging but it would add to the realism. Only they'd have to keep it random so as not to be used too much.
Also, when keepers come out to grab corners and freekicks I'd like to see them fumble them every now and again.

I totally agree. The decisions are always spot on, they'd have to balance it well and not make it too harsh though. Giving home teams a slight biase etc would be pretty cool.
Although judging by some referee's performances this season, they will have to put loads of dodgy decisions in to keep it 'realistic'!

Again you missed my point entirely. Even if you replaced 'implore' with 'recommend', you're still 'recommending' a game that isn't even out yet let alone it having barely any info released on it apart from a fact sheet. So yes, I did read your post perfectly fine, but you obviously didn't quite grasp my point the first time

I kind of understand what you are saying, but that blatantly wasn't my point. I was recommending that he try a game and not totally dismiss it out of hand. I was trying to be helpful!
Why did you not pick him up when he said he would buy PES2010 "whatever the improvements"?
For the past few years I have purchased both FIFA and PES, and for the last 2 years I would say the standard of game in FIFA has been far better than that of PES, so I think that this year FIFA will be the only ones getting my money. It also comes down to the authenticity of the whole experience for me, ie. correct team names, correct player names (you might argue that i have ocd!) as it really makes the game feel more realistic as well as giving that sensation of "this is a game that has been made to the best standards because the devs care about their audience".

Yes, you were saying to try a game but you also said it's "brilliant" when there's no way you could know that unless you worked at EA or had hands on time with it.
And because he never tried to claim PES2010 will be/is brilliant and wasn't trying to tell anyone else otherwise who had already made their decision. He just said he's going to buy it no matter whatever the improvements (or disimprovements ) Then again for all you know PES2010 could end up being better than FIFA10 so then it'd be you missing out
Anyway I wasn't trying to start an argument or anything, and I just have a tendency to roll my eyes a lot 'cos I'm a very sarcastic person
360 degrees couldn't come quicker. I get frustrated knowing I am limited to few directions. Though yes this has improved vastly since the SWOS days. I have always been a Pro Evo player up until 2009 where Fifa actually stepped up the game and put Pro Evo to shame. So I am hoping 2010 will bring Pro Evo back but with the amount of different games Fifa offer I don't see this happening.
