Apple's recently announced and far-too-expensive new iPhone, the 3GS, will prove to be more powerful than the PSP, mobile developer Fishlabs has claimed.
Speaking to PocketGamer, the dev's excited boss Michael Schade proclaimed that "the OpenGL 2.0 support will push the iPhone beyond PSP," however high early costs could limit how far developers initially push the device.
"As graphic assets need to be designed from scratch to benefit from 2.0 shaders it will be very hard to monetise the extra effort in the early days. It's definitely not worth it for $0.99 apps," he said.
"It makes more sense now to have a setting for extra high graphics to run on iPod touch 2 and iPhone 3GS," he added, "even if that means more dev efforts and testing."
Just how long will that battery last with these graphics going on? The battery life is a bit of a joke really. I love my iPhone, I really do, but gaming on it really is a bit of a nightmare as the controls just have too much margin for error and I'm constantly swearing under my breath on the train when the controls let me down. I'll probably get a 3GS as I'll use it for business stuff, I think I'm pretty much sold on PSP Go for gaming now. Although a PSP Go and iPhone on my pocket aint gonna be nice. Maybe if Apple were to release a custom clip on controls peripheral then that might do the trick. Cant see that happening though...
It might be more powerful than psp but the controls are so limited it makes it all pointless in my opinion. The touch is perfect for updated mobile phone games but it will never be a games machine in my eyes. Perhaps Apple are testing the waters before they release a proper console????.

Really? Better than a 4 year old handheld you say? Didn't realise technology moves that fast...
age has nothing to do with specs or performance, one of intels latest products is the Atom which is a low power, low cost solution for desktops.
That is true, but needing to state the fact you've built a more powerful machine 4 years later than the PSP was launched as if it's a real technical achievement is a little unnecessary.
Too dear, sh1t games, sh1t dev support, crap out of the box control scheme(seriously, who in their right mind though it a good idea to have to buy a seperate controller just to make a portable app playable?!), arrogant as T10 PR BS and a huge let down on reveal for me.
I was a big enough fool buying a Touch in the first place(luckily I found an even bigger idiot to sell it to)when both PSP and DS control better, have better games and aren't the price of a piece of average sized central London real estate.
Honestly, I loved my Mac(stolen sadly)and hoped that Apple entering gaming would cause waves but right now they contunie missing the whole point of games machine first-add ons, music and phones later. Big waste of money, imo.
does anyone actually buy these iPhone games for any reason other than trying to justify the high price by showing off all the "wonderful" things their PHONE can do, that much cheaper bits of hardware that are designed to actually do that kind of thing do a lot better and don't make you look like a bit of boaby?
As the ONLY multitouch gaming device the ingame controls will be crap for any game made by lazy devs who are porting their wares from other platforms, but titles that take advantage of them are fun and do shift units.
The App store has only been around since mid 2008 and Apple have shifted over 40 million units (iphones and touches) the price point will be irrelevant as in September this tech is also coming to the Touch. Apple Already sell more handhelds than Sony with their PSP (only 50 million units by March 2009 been out for 4 years) and will be catching up with Nintendo's 100 million units (combined DS, DS Lite and DSi).
Whether you like it or not this sells. Game companies know this too and you will see more publishers producing games for the iPhone and Touch.
Doesn't mean its good (hey, look at how many Wii's sell and thats a steaming turd) but its here to stay.
It is only a matter of time before a company like Zeemote provides dual finger controls for the iPhone, and not like that PSP slab from the iControlpad hacks in G.B. Then the PSP Go will be smoked.
