World of Warcraft patch version 3.2 will add new quest markers to the world map, allowing players to hunt out missions far easier, according to the latest patch notes.

It's a move that some of the more hardcore players may see as a diluting of the game's 'exploration' aspects, but we're sure the lazier, more casual WoW-ers will be pleased.

Here's the official word on how the new quest markers will work:

"User Interface: Quest creatures and objects will now show on the player's world map.
  • A skull graphic will be placed on the map in the general area where creatures players must kill can be found.
  • A glowing skull graphic will be placed on the map in the general area where creatures can be found that drop quest objects.
  • A gear graphic will be placed on the map in the general area where players must loot objects found in the world.
  • A chat bubble graphic will be placed on the map in the general area where players must interact with a specific NPC.
  • X marks the spot on the map where players must reach, discover or explore a designated area.
  • A yellow question mark graphic will show on the map to provide the location of a NPC whose quest the player has completed.

This should be quite useful.

Especially when I'm trying to remember exactly where I've got to go and then spend half an hour going east instead of west...

Looking forward to trying this out soon Very Happy

so they have just copyed the quest helper mod then.
oOPuPPeTOo on 24 Jun '09
Aye. In-built Quest Helper. Good stuff.
csdaveuk on 24 Jun '09
The funny thing about WoW is you can get so many mods etc that practically play the game for you. Perfect for all thos lazy people out there Smile
kimoak on 24 Jun '09
QuestHelper is a mainstay on my addons list, it gives people who don't want to waste MORE of their life searching everywhere for their objectives the chance to have them marked for them. I don't wanna be running around like a headless chicken searching for that one boar i can't find. So this will be perfect as I don't have to rely on an add-on that needs updating ALL the time

"PTR patch 3.2 adds quest markers (for lazy gamers)"

And headlines for lazy "reporters" too it seems.

@kimoak - I have NEVER seen personally a mod that can even come close to "playing for you." You have no clue what you're talking about.

Early in my wowing days i spent ages going east to find gnomergan only to find out that it was in teh slither of unexplored map on the east
ding333 on 24 Jun '09
I never understand why people use questhelper...its useless

I use Carbonite...its still free and does a better job than questhelper.

Most people who have lvled to 80 dont want to have to find everything again, so it doesnt have anything to do with being lazy. Looking for raptors to kill to get hearts or looking for some stupid orc to kill takes hours if you dont know where to look, slowing you down and taking away from the main point of the lower lvls these days. Learning you class and lvling.

Looking for stuff is just annoying and a waste of time.
