WoW house Blizzard has filed a trademark for something called "Cataclysm," sparking speculation that it could be the next World of Warcraft expansion - or something different entirely.
The trademark covers "computer game software", "paper goods" and "online gaming".
The super-studio is known to be working on at least four projects: World of Warcraft, Diablo III, StarCraft II and a new, untitled MMO which Blizzard has confirmed is the start of "a brand new franchise". Could "Cataclysm" be that new franchise?

I'm gonna sound like a nerd now, but in Wacraft lore, the Cataclysm was another name for the Great Sundering, which created the continents of the world as they are in World of Warcraft and created the Maelstrom (the giant whirlpool in the middle of the map)
The Maelstrom was widely expected to be the next expansion for WoW, so in conclusion this is World of Warcraft: Cataclysm. 3rd expansion.

Yep, it is a bit geeky, but good knowledge all the same!!
Umm well it could be a third expansion. Would sort of make sense considering most people have finished the latest expansion and you would have thought Blizzard would have filed for the new MMO before now considering it has been in the making for some time now.
Besides Catacylsm doesn't really sound like a title game name and since speculation has it that their next MMO will not be fanatasy my guess would be an expansion to WOW too.
It wont be a new game. Blizzard don't make new games, they make expansion packs. Also some larger expansion packs which they call "sequels", but really it's the exact same game all over again, maybe with better graphics.

Finished? Hardly...
At the moment people are working their way through the second major dungeon (Ulduar) of this expansion, and I'm pretty sure there'll be at least two more (Icecrown and one other) before we even get any official word on the next expansion.
I do however agree with the theory that this is probably the title for the next expansion, no doubt they are well into development on it by now.
Also Blizzard patented the wrath of the lich king name about a month before Blizzcon when they announced WotLK as a expansion... and Blizzcon is coming up soon! Just putting it out there
