Been keeping a keen eye on Square's mystery teaser site? Forget all that because Japanese magazine Weekly Jump has spilled the beans and revealed it's a new Final Fantasy game for DS.
Its proper name is Hikari no Yon Senshi: Final Fantasy Gaiden, or Four Warriors of Light: Final Fantasy Gaiden, according to translations. Apparently you're given control of a 14-year-old boy who sets out on the day of his birthday to save a princess, after being summoned by the king.
You get yourself a party of four customisable characters, who you meet on your travels in what is described as a standard menu-driven RPG. Those characters, three of which can be seen riding a dragon on Square's teaser site (or in the image on the right), were designed by Final Fantasy Tactics and FFXII man Akihiko Yoshida, according to the report.
It's also noted that there's no 'MP' in battles, but a new 'Charge' command alongside the usual 'Fight' and 'Item' options.
Meh, I like a change sometimes, but not for it to completely warp my favourite franchises beyond recognition (*cough* Final Fantasy XII), so I'm 100% A-OK with a traditional turn-based battle system - the new charge system could actually be very interesting - perhaps similar to what SE is doing with gettind rid of MP in FF XIII. Either way, I'd say it's too early to make judgement about the title yet.
Although I will admit the story sounds a bit dull and cliched.
