Speaking to CVG during a recent visit to London to show off Halo: ODST, Bungie senior designer Lars Bakken told us that the forthcoming Halo Reach will most likely be Bungie's last 360 Halo game.
When asked if it would be safe to assume whether or not Reach is Bungie's last Halo game for the 360 platform, Bakken explained, "In terms of a platform for Halo games made by Bungie, yes. I can't answer that question for Microsoft though. Whether they have something in the works or not, I don't know if they're actually ready to talk about it yet, but in terms of Bungie-produced Halo games, ODST and then Reach is probably all you're going to get."

Bakken also told us that work on Halo: ODST is "done". "From our standpoint, we had to get it done and get everybody working on Halo Reach. Looking at the portfolio as a whole and the title roll out, this coming September is the right time for [ODST's release]."
I make it 3 titles from Bungie for the 360: Halo 3; Halo 3 ODST & Halo Reach.
Bungie might be finished with Halo on the 360 after the next 2 Games are released but id bet you a Dollar that we see another MS Halo Game from Bungie, albeit on the new (whenever that is) MS console.
Still, MS seem to be putting a lot of faith in 343 Industries and with the talent available there I trust the Halo Franchise is in good hands (Frank O'Connor is leading the Team after all).

You either are in control, or you're not. if MS own say 20% of Bungie now and the other 80% of the shareholders say 'look, we want you to make a game for the PS3 because there's money in it' then Bungie will make games for the PS3. it may not be in MS's interests for them to do so, but what the majority of shareholders say goes. This is exactly what happened with Halo in the first place - they were making it for the PC/Mac and MS bought a majority shareholding and said 'no, you make it for our new console' and so they did.
If MS own 49.9% of Bungie or less, they're not in control any more. The less of Bungie they own, the less say they have in what Bungie do. That's how capitalism works. If they have 10% or so, they practically have no say at all.
As for it not being 'in Bungies interests' to work on a PS3 game - it will be if they can make a profit doing so, it won't be if they can't. It's that simple. I can't imagine whoever is actually in charge of Bungie now would give up on making money to save MS's feelings. I also think if MS come up with a great new FPS franchise that blows Halo out of the water, they'll publish it without a second thought and Bungie's bottom line be damned.

Calm down jon! There are millions of other comments on CVG that deserve a dressing down more than this thread!
They're a privately owned company, so we don't know what stake MS have or what agreements are in place. And you can have lots of input and sway at 49.9%, you are only screwed if a single other entity owns the rest of the shares.
When they said 'not in their interest' I assumed they were referring to having lots of experience with the 360 and next to nothing with the PS3 until they split - whether that means its not in the interest depends on the individuals involved I guess.
Shame on you CVG, that is either really scraping the bottom of the barrel for flamebait to feed the advertising coffers or just very lazy journalism.
as far as im aware, ms let bungie go, but still own all the shares in the company, they just gave them creative control do what they want when it comes to games and let them brake away from ms in a controlling nature.
MS own the halo franchise and anything bungie care to make afterwards and they have 1st refusals on anything, anything ms dont like bungie have the right to ask another publisher to step in, but it's only going to be for 360 and pc windows platforms, with maybe ds, iphone, zune aswell.

Probably in the same way of Ghostbusters. Ghostbusters as a brand is owned by Sony Pictures so for every copy that is sold on Xbox & Wii Sony see a slice of that money!
Haven't I read a similar comment from Bungie on CVG's website before ODST and Reach were announced? It's deja vu all over again...
Jon is right on most of his points, although Ric nicely points out that it also depends on how much company stock other parties are in control of. Finally, in regards to profit, there too it will depend on *how much* profit can be made. If for example there is only a 5% profit margin after the project it might be of more interest to explore alternatives, even completely new IPs.

Just one thing I want to question: The part in bold is pure speculation. While a logical assumption, short of you having sat in on behind-closed-doors board meetings with MS and Bungie, you have no way of knowing what Bungie might, or might not, do in regards to future platform specific projects. None of us do I wager.
As far as I was aware, since the Bungie/MS split, MS has "first say" on whether or not to publish any future Bungie games. So, in a sense, they still have a lot of control over Bungie, in that I very much doubt MS would allow a brilliant-looking game from Bungie to be published on a rival console.

I own and use my PS3 quite regularly - mainly for DVD and VidZone but when there is a good exclusive I will play that too.
I just find it hilarious that people like Grassyhopper can be so wrong. Yes - WRONG. He has not got the first clue what he is talking about most of the time. As for being an xbot? I do much prefer my Xbox for gaming. It gives a far better gaming experience...in my opinion. If that makes me an xbot - should I sell my PS3 then?
It obvious from reading most gaming forums that PS3 'fanboys' have a huge chip on their shoulder. But then that is to be expected. Underdogs and people that feel threatened and belittled usually do.

i have to say i find it odd that you read this thread at all unless you are into halo? none of your posts are linked to the story in any way, most of them seem to be referencing kz2 or defending other people that seem to be ps3 owners. it seems to me that in most threads i read you are having a pop at someone for something, coming across a bit holier than thou. in some respects there are those that deserve it but not always, we all post rubbish from time to time for whatever reason.
anyhow, i dont care if halo:reach is the last halo game or just the last from bungie as everything has to end sometimes and we need new games coming in to keep things fresh.

I think the most entertaining thing about it is every single time he does it he gets rumbled and pushed into a corner very early into the flame-war, but he's obviously so insecure he feels he has to post something back even if he can't come up with a decent argument, leading to his endless primary school grade replies.

I'd like to see them make oni 2. I know its a sequel, ato a game they made years ago, but they could always rerelease the original on xbox live and PSN.
Come to think of it i think they worked with R* on it. would be goodto see them working together again.
I would love to see another Oni game, and for them to release the first on PSN and XBL. Also the Myth games were amazing too, both of them. It's a shame to see such a talented developement team pinned down like a battery farm hen and forced to pump the same s**te out over and over.

Is that BUNGIE confirming that HALO 4 is coming to 720 ( XBOX 3). As he states twice that it is the last 360 platform game , and not the last XBOX platform game ???? Also it is rumoured( from an EPIC internal memo) that GEARS 2 was the last game in the series to appear on the 360. So GEARS 3 confirmed as a 720 launch game then lol. HMMMMM As GEARS are every other year, and Halo games ( in the main series) about every 3-4 years ( 01, 04, 07). That makes 720 late 2010 - early 2011. Whooo- yeah
as far as im aware, ms let bungie go, but still own all the shares in the company, they just gave them creative control do what they want when it comes to games and let them brake away from ms in a controlling nature.
MS own the halo franchise and anything bungie care to make afterwards and they have 1st refusals on anything, anything ms dont like bungie have the right to ask another publisher to step in, but it's only going to be for 360 and pc windows platforms, with maybe ds, iphone, zune aswell.
And even if MS did not like the next new IP from BUNGIE why would they refuse to publish it. If they did they would be risking BUNGIE becoming a PS3 dev co
