Castlevania is next Konami classic ReBirth

ESRB lists the next in Konami's retro revival series
Castlevania looks to be the next classic Konami series to get a modern revival as ESRB lists Castlevania ReBirth for Wii.

The ratings board description says: "This is a side-scrolling action game in which players battle against monsters in Dracula's castle. Players use a chained whip to fight their way through halls and dungeons filled with zombies, skeletons, flying eyeballs, and bats.

"The enemy creatures frequently shoot projectiles and attack players in hand-to-hand combat. If players sustain too much damage, they keel over and emit a burst of red blood. Some rooms in the castle also have spikes or spears stained with red, blood-like splotches."

We're hoping for a full-on adventure like the DS ones (that screenshot above is Order of Eccelsia), and not a straight 2D action scroller like the old Super NES games.

Contra and Gradius have already been given the ReBirth treatment - both released on WiiWare, so expect the same of Castlevania.

No word on a release just yet, but we'll keep 'em peeled.

suh weet. Hopefully it'll turn out like the awesome DS ones. COntra rebirth was bloody briliant though so i've got high hopes they'll do a great job with castlevania too.

If its as good as Dawn of Sorrow then it'll be ace(i'll need to dig out my DS charger and get that finished then get onto Portrait of Ruin). Still wish Konami would make a new Contra or Castlevania for XboxLive Arcade or for PSN. If these games had been around whilst i still had my Wii i'd have never gotten rid of it. Sad

Was not aware Castlevania needed a revival, it's portable life is amazing right? Every game is about a remake with exploration and the inevitable fight with Dracula and we still play them all, this is how good they are. Hope they don't stray too far from what makes it fun.

I have scandalously missed every Castlevania game out there. This version might kickstart me on to all the others in the series... up until the SNES one anyway.(or decent portables)

You should give em a go kimoak. I played through Symphony of the Night recently on the 360 and it's every bit as playable today as the day it was released. They're pretty basic for rpg's but oh so enjoyable.

I errr... keep dying when I play Symphony of the Night. I kill dracula, am forced to read all that waffle, get my powers nicked then die about 2 minutes later for being rubbish. Basically, I can't manage to get to the first save point. lol

Oh dear. Embarassed

They do have a great pedigree. My bro was a big fan of the games and if he likes them, I am sure I will. Especially as it has some depth to it also.
