Buy a PSPgo and you won't be able to play your current UMD games on it. But Sony has revealed a rewards scheme to make up for that, which offers up three games, from a list of 17, as free downloads to buyers of the new SKU.
It looks like you connect both your PSP and PSPgo to PSN, with a UMD in the drive of your old machine, at which point you're given the chance to download a free game.
Not quite the UMD-to-digital download plan we were hoping for, but it's better than a kick in the nads.
Here's the official details on how you can redeem your games:
To celebrate the upcoming launch of the latest model of PSP(PlayStationPortable) Sony Computer Entertainment Europe (SCEE) is pleased to announce a special promotion to help existing PSP owners with UMDs (Universal Media Discs), to start their digital games collection for PSPgo.
To help you get your PSPgo collection started, we're giving away three full games for free.* With PSPgo Rewards you can download three much-loved, or totally new PSP titles for free, and put your new PSPgo to the test. Pick your favourites from a number of popular PSP titles. Get in on the action with Killzone: Liberation or SOCOM: U.S. Navy SEALs Fireteam Bravo 3. Give your reflexes a pounding with WipEout Pure. Put your skills to the test with Everybody's Golf or echochrome. Give your brain a workout with Buzz!: Brain Bender or Master Quiz. Or get quirky, with LocoRoco or Patapon. There are seventeen titles to choose from in all, and the process is simple...
1. Unwrap your shiny new PSPgo and start it up 2. Connect to PlayStationNetwork and activate your new or existing PlayStation Network account for PSPgo Rewards 3. Start up your current PSP and connect to PlayStation Network 4. Login using the same PlayStation Network account , and launch PlayStationStore 5. Pop one of your UMDs into the drive of your current PSP and register on PSPgo Rewards when prompted 6. Download a PSPgo theme 7. Wait for your email voucher for your three free games 8. Choose, download and enjoy!
Am I reading this right? You can't transfer UMDs to PSP Go, so they'll let you have three downloads for free. So if you have a collection of 10, 20, or even 50 PSP games, you only get three of them on Go? Or just three new ones? I sincerely hope that's not the case.
I'm guessing if you have the required original psp, you would have some games.
Will be interesting to see how this pans out. I read somewhere that the biggest games chain in Australia aren't going to stock them. Combined with the high RRP and (so far) not being able to transfer your games from UMD, it could go either way - people may love the download service.
Not sure why you couldn't go into a sony centre (can't imagine Game etc would offer it as they'd lose money), take in your games and get some download codes. Or send them to Sony.
There's soemthign very weird about Sony - the people whio basically invented backwards compatibility (game boy aside) in the console world do sucha disservice to both the PSP and PS3. I don;t see why they couldn't allow you to downlaod your previously bought games for a fee - couple of quid pergame maybe.
I've had a PSP since launch and still have the "fat" one...
Question to PSP3000 owners - are the interlacing issues really as bad as the IGN review would have people believe?
It's surprisingly hard to get a clear answer to that question. Most sites with comments on them are quite old now, so has the problem gone away, or do people simply not notice it as much, as their only machine has been the PSP3000 and with nothing to compare to, they don't notice it?
The interlacing issues are gone now, Sony sorted it out when the problem was discovered. I have a 3000 and have never had an issue with it, and the screen looks much nicer than the one on my old fat.
They have omitted many of the best PSP games from that list. Star Ocean 1&2, Crisis Core, FF Tactics, these should all be on. They certainly aren't enticing me into an upgrade.

Thanks for that. Again I could only find early information from Sony who stated that it was a kind of by-product of having fixed other issues, and as it wasn't software related there was nothing they could do with regards to a firmware upgrade.
I'm tempted to upgrade to a PSP-3000 as I really don't see the Go working for me personally, and perhaps not as a format at all... Just my opinion though...
omg, I'm the same, I've saved up for two months for this... and now it's useless... I feel so sad At least I know whether I want a PSP Go or an iPhone now...

I got my iphone 3GS on Tuesday and I seriously couldn't recommend it more.
