Don't expect Ico or Colossus sequels

Team Ico says there's "no potential"
Shadow of the Colossus was one of PS2's defining titles. How awesome would it be to fight even bigger giants on PS3? Very. But you won't be seeing a direct sequel, says Team Ico big man Fumito Ueda.

Although Ico, Shadow of the Colossus and the upcoming The Last Guardian are perceived to be part of a series, they are separate universes with separate stories. And Ueda says direct sequels to either of them wouldn't work.

"In terms of franchising, I don't think that the previous game or the game before that had that kind of potential. Meaning that even if we made a sequel of the other two games, it wouldn't have exceeded the first one - there's no way we could go above and beyond," Ueda told the PS Blog in the interview above.

The Last Guardian is looking incredible though, (check out a dev diary and gorgeous new trailer here) so we won't cry about it.

I'm glad as I prefer the evolving nature between the games, both ICO and Shadow have come from a similar backgrounds of thought but what makes those games is the imagination and discovery. You would loose so much if a sequel to either were made. On a separate note, can't wait for Guardian.

Good to see a developer that doesnt cash in on all its IP's with pointless and unnecessary sequels.

I don't expect a sequel. What I would like though is a PS3 re-release similar to the GoW Collection. Playing my PS2 on my HDTV looks like complete bottom.

sequels? no it wouldnt work with these two game for sure, it would be contrived and awful to be frank

however remakes of ICO and Shadow of the colossus would work, please remake them!

I think it depends what you expect from a sequel. Simply doing Colossus again wouldn't work, it's true.
But keeping those massive boss battles while having something in between would work fine. Although it might become a little too similar to the action-RPGs everyone is putting out.

Nice to see them not relying on franchise names though. As long as they don't live to regret it if a new project goes under. I'd approve of a Colossus remake though, taking advantage of PS3 POWA Smile

i like it that they don't get sequels,if they can keep coming up with different original stories, then thats fine

i played ICO,and i bought SoTC ages ago,but still have yet to play it

Good, I'm very happy to hear that, they both work very well by themselves and a sequel would ruin the feeling of unique-ness for me. ICO and Colossus in HD, with trophies and on one disc on PS3 ala God of War Collection wouldn't go amiss though... Wink

I'm glad they're not going to do sequels. The games are both amazing, and the developers are incredibly talented for these titles alone. I wish more developers had this sort of attitude, to create an original game, and just leave it be, despite any sequel demand and critical acclaim.

Although, I've always imagined Ico and SotC to be linked, I'm sure they confirmed they were both set in the same universe, and I hope The Last Guardian will be to. I like the way The Last Guardian almost looks like a direct merge of Ico and SotC.

I would buy a PS3 soley for this game.

I don't want direct sequels, but the blu-ray God of War 1 and 2 treatment would be great for these games.
