How do you want your Resi 5: Alternate Edition?

Capcom asks if you'd like DLC or boxed product
Capcom is asking its faithful Resi following in the US and Europe how they'd like to receive the Resident Evil 5: Alternative Edition that was announced at the Tokyo Game Show. We'd obviously rather have it as DLC instead of having to buy another version of the game, but maybe that's just us?

"Alternative Edition will come with new content (I'm sure that you've already seen the trailer released during the show) and will support Sony's magic wand-y PS3 Motion Controller. Never fear, Xboxers, as Takeuchi-san told us in a meeting that the team is evaluating what they can do for 360 players as well," said Capcom's community man, seemingly conforming some sort of Natal support.

Before we find out about that though, "Capcom is wrapping its collective head around the notion of how the new content will be delivered to RE faithful," the blog explained. "We're of two minds at the moment about delivery. Since you will ultimately be the people buying and playing this new content, we've decided that you should be the ones telling us how to make it available."

In Japan the Alternative Edition will be released as "a new physical package, with all that entails: new box art, new manual, new shiny disc, another plastic box to add to a tottering stack of console games". Capcom says this makes sense for the Japanese market where uptake of digital content is "a bit behind the western markets".

But based on figures for RE5 "Versus" DLC and digital-only games like Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix and Marvel VS Capcom 2, "we know that the demand for DLC in the west is huge."

What do you reckon then? We're all about the DLC.

I would prefer it in DLC. I'm not paying another €50 for a game with 1 extra chapter.

It will also sell more as DLC.

I agree no frigging way im shelling out for a whole new package........DLC it has to be, unless the new package is the same price as the DLC.....NOT!!!
deanoz2 on 6 Oct '09
Both.
DaRockwilder1 on 6 Oct '09
How about both?
Dinalfos on 6 Oct '09
I already own RE5 on the 360. I would definitely buy that extra episode as DLC, for sure.
ginsin on 6 Oct '09
Both would be best. Then the guys that already have Resi can just buy the extra part and those that don't can go out and buy the complete package.
WHERESMYMONKEY on 6 Oct '09
Do both, that way people with the game can enjoy it and people who want the boxed version can have some physical version as well.
DAEDALUS79 on 6 Oct '09
I'd like it free if you're asking. Silly me Capcom make you pay for things on the disc. I don't think they've quite got the hang of dlc at the moment, can somebody translate to them it doesn't mean parts of the actual disc itself have to be paid for.
Drusus on 6 Oct '09
Both, i'll take the DLC option and the people who have no broadband or haven't experienced the game get can get the boxed. It the fairest choice.
ensabahnur on 6 Oct '09
should be both but no doubt itl go to ...dlc
Miss_Wacy on 6 Oct '09
Bit of a sill question really. Is anyone who owns the original really likely to say "yes, please charge me full price for the same game I bought a year ago just a little bit longer?".
Regiep on 6 Oct '09
Again, bith would be the best option. It makes it available to those who haven't played it before or have no internet access, and also to those who just want the new content. Though the retail version should be made cheaper to reflect the fact it's already out (like the GOTY editions of Fallout 3 and Fable 2 etc).
GTCzeero on 6 Oct '09
It'll be part of the platinum range soon enough (my local Tesco is already selling it for just over Ł20).

Those of us who have not bought it yet will be able to pick it up, along with the DLC, for around Ł27 so I don't see why they'd go through the trouble and cost of making it available to retailers.
Regiep on 6 Oct '09
I'd prefer DLC
BOBA-FETT 1985 on 6 Oct '09
Both. And have the other so called "DLC" - versus mode on there from the get go with no extra charge to unlock it this time. Rolling Eyes
YCshinobi on 6 Oct '09
Wouldn't consider buying either unless they sort out the s**tty controls.

Dead Space proved you can incorporate a move and shoot mechanic and not ruin the gameplay.

Was really disappointed that Resi 5 didn't have this option.
DazedandConfused on 6 Oct '09
While I agree that the "both" option seems the most favourable to customers, it would likely increase costs for Capcom...in which case they would probably be better off just going for the DLC option if keeping costs down is one of their main objectives.

+1

"Dead Space" is one of the few console games involving shooting whose controls I don't fault; it was a joy to behold and it puts "RE5"'s control scheme to complete and utter shame, IMO.
The_KFD_Case on 6 Oct '09
Both is rather out of the question, I think. The manufacturing costs would be too high. So, I think DLC is the fairest option. A whole new game for a few hours of new content is garbage, release it as DLC for about Ł5 and watch the sales go through the roof.

Well i highly doubt the unlucky people without broadband are going to post their opinions on the subject Laughing
