Lucozade Alert Plus Super-Sonic record attempt

Golden Joystick Awards to feature Sonic 2 speed-run
Golden Joystick Awards promotion:

This year's Golden Joystick Awards could earn themselves a place in the record books. Or rather, gamer James Richards could find himself in the proud holder of not one but three Guinness World Records when he attempts a speed-run of Sonic 2 at the Joysticks ceremony in London this month on all three consoles.

While the winners are collecting their awards from host Sean Lock on 30 October, Richards will be embarking on the Lucozade Alert Plus Sonic 2 Challenge. He'll be trying to set a new world record for the fastest completion time on the first level of the classic Mega Drive game that's made a reappearance in Sega Mega Drive Ultimate Collection on PS3, XBLA and Wii's Virtual Console.

Richards is no stranger to fleet-fingered success: he currently holds the Guinness World Record for speed-running Sonic The Hedgehog 3 (in a measly 49 minutes and 17 seconds).

Lucozade have laid down the Sonic 2 challenge to celebrate the launch of their new energising shot, Lucozade Alert Plus. The drink is proven to boost mental performance, focus, reactions and alertness, all of which will come in pretty handy for Richards when trying to set a speed-based record with one of the nippiest characters in gaming.

So will Richards be able to add to his world record tally? You'll be able to watch a video of his attempt on CVG shortly after the awards show.
