Wii accessories officially out of control

Developer unveils... a Wii exercise bike
Britain's shops are stuffed full of Wii peripheral tat at the moment, and one developer has highlighted just how out of control the Nintendo accessory craze has become... with a Wii exercise bike.

Bigben Interactive has unveiled Cyberbike, the latest fitness add-on set to have wives and daughters acting like proper plonkers in January ... for half an hour at least.

"You have to cycle along paths and roads, clearing up sources of pollution that is ruining the environment. It all sounds a bit worthy! Using the bike, you ride through 18 different circuits and, as you progress, numerous accessories are unlocked including new backpacks and vehicle colours. Modes include Fitness, Story, and a Multiplayer for four players," says Official Nintendo Magazine.

See pictures below, and wonder where on earth the missus is going to put the thing.

Prop cycle! You could make a version of prop cycle with that! Damn i used to spend money on that game like it was going out of fashion

One of my mates had an exercise bike peripheral for his PS2, so this is nothing new to me.

They are right, though. Exercise bikes are incredibly boring - even if you're watching TV or listening to music. If I had some visual feedback it would certainly add at least some feeling of distance and reward.

This is going to be the crappest bike, though. They'd do better to try and get it to plug into standard bikes.

It's these types of s**t that make the Wii look like a 'casual' console and put devs off making better games. Things like MP3, Zelda, Madworld and NMH all prove that the Wii can be superb when it utilizes it's potential, and Wii games are stuck in either the monumentally superb camp and the shovelware camp, with no inbetween. The problem is, the latter heavily outweighs the prior, and from there sprouts the thought that everything on the Wii requires no effort to be able to turn a profit. It doesn't help that crap like 'Wii Music' sells in the bucketloads as well. End rant.

I agree. Its crap like this I really can't stand! How the hell are Bigben in business still? I'm sure all they make is turd. Seriously, who buys this crap!?!?

I'm really looking forward to the Wii Blow Up Doll accessory.

So the game panders to the "oh yes I exercise whilst playing my Wii, and then I drive to the fair trade shops in my Prius" type then?

Well the game has the same problem as the Prius. The prius alludes to being great for the environment, whilst still having a petrol engine and apparently batteries using minerals from polluting mines. The game is all about saving the environment whilst it is using power all the time to run the Wii and the TV you are playing it with!

Hypocrisy at it's finest.

(I have nothing against Fair Trade shops, or the Prius in theory)

Now the Vic Reeves Wii toilet doesn't seem so far fetched...!!

TBH This seems like one of the 'better' ideas at the moment on the Wii, I kinda like the idea...I must be getting soft...!
ei8hty5ive on 13 Oct '09
Yep, it's crap, but I bet it will fly straight to the number one slot once it's out.

My wife has an exercise bike. It's huge, and really heavy and sits in our spare bedroom because there's nowhere else it can go. She doesn't use it because she gets really bored up there on her own. So I'm quite pleased that someone has come up with this, frankly. Anything that'll help turn my wife into the slim, sexy woman she used to be is fine by me!
