Dragon Age has "two year" DLC plan

Everything from small item packs to larger quests, says BioWare
Dragon Age: Origins will receive two years' worth of downloadable content, says BioWare.

The RPG's add-on packs will include everything from small items to larger quests, executive producer Mark Darrah told TGR.

"We have plans that stretch out [with DLC] for basically two years," he said. "And it's going to be everything from really small stuff like item packs up to larger quests that might last an hour or two up to even fully fledged expansion packs. Really it's a broad long term support plan for the game," he added.

And will the DLC appear on all platforms? "Absolutely," says Darrah. "I can imagine we might release something related to the toolset, which would of course be PC only. But at the moment everything is planned to be across all platforms."

Dragon Age: Origins is out on November 6 for Xbox 360 and PC, and on November 20 for PS3. Have a look at the beefy Collector's Edition, why don't you?

Supporting the Game with DLC for the next 2 years?

Just like Mass Effect then ... oh ... thats right ... wait a minute ... Laughing

EA owns Bioware now. There's already two DLC packs advertised on the Dragon Age site. Even before the game is out.

I'm of two minds regarding this. On the one hand I accept genuine expansion packs, yet on the other hand I am sceptical towards DLC if you have to pay for it. I suppose the difference between an expansion pack and DLC is the amount of new material and how well it is executed. Still, when I read that a developer - any developer really - already has DLC plans two years in to the future before the game in question is released, that triggers some alarm bells.

DLC is a joke sometimes, i'll be very surprised if they support it for two years, 9-12 months if we're lucky, after that point most people have moved onto something else, you dont want to revisit games just because there's a new item to try out and adds really nothing to the overall game.
bmaindj on 14 Oct '09
God forbid they should put any of this stuff in the actual game and make it better Surprised

If they do this I just hope there'll be proper reviews of the DLC, that Mass Effect: Pinnicle Station was a rip of, in fact I think it actually made the whole game a bit worse.

Haha StoneCold you took the words right out of my... typing fingers... Wink

Here's hoping they get some quality DLC out and they manage the same with ME2.

Pinnacle Abhoration was nicht so gut. I actually played through it first time round, and now I've got my main Shepard up to Level 60 on a second play through, I can't bloody beat either of the initial timed levels. Lazy, lazy add-on.
Moribundman on 14 Oct '09
I'd like to hear less about the add ons, and more about whether this game is any good, please...

Honestly they must be putting that OFVery Happyragon Rising vid in as a joke now for sure, thats 2 days running this time. Do they not have any actual Dragon Age footage to show us?

Yet videos of some of the gameplay has been online for months on end. Oh well. I do look forward to playing this game and I hope EA/BioWare have opted for the approach Bethesda took with SecuROM for "FO3" (i.e. it stayed on the disc and did not install anything on to the computer's harddrive). That I can live with although DRM in general rubs me the wrong way.
The_KFD_Case on 14 Oct '09
I have a two-year plan also.

To ignore all Dragon Age DLC.
splitter on 14 Oct '09
Just as long as it has as many peices as Fallout and is'nt like ME I'll be happy.
TheKraige on 14 Oct '09
You can now download the character creator if anyone is interested. Plus if you create your character in advance and upload it to bioware, you get a ring that +1 on all stats.

Thanks Alex! Very Happy

Update: Given the SecuROM DRM that "Spore's Creature Creator" came with (EA being the publisher for both of these games), combined with the EULA that pops up before the installation commences, I think I'll wait to actually install the Character Creator until after the first reports are in regarding "DASurprised"s DRM. Mad

well you get the first DLC is free(the stone prisoner)inside the box when you buy the game and the other DLC that's day one will be 560 MSP(wardens keep)

if this is a 100hr+(or whatever) game anyway,i hope they don't release anymore DLC for at least a month or two after release
