Nintendo releasing 'larger' Nintendo DSi

Handheld with bigger screens due in Japan this year? - UPDATE
Nintendo will release a 'larger' Nintendo DSi in Japan this year, reports reliable Japanese newspaper Nikkei.

The new DSi, says the publication, will support larger 4-inch screens - three-quarters of an inch larger than the current model - but will stick to the current Nintendo DSi's Japanese retail price of 18900 yen.

The plump DSi is said to be hitting the Far East as early at this year and is apparently aimed at an older market, who presumably like their screens nice and big so they can read all those Brain Training numbers.

A release outside Japan is said to be under discussion. We've left a message with Nintendo to find out.

UPDATE: A Nintendo spokesperson has told Famitsu.com (Via Kotaku.), "Our company isn't doing any interviews [about this]. We think it's a speculative article."

We think it's a speculative article

Er, shouldn't Nintendo actually know if it's speculative or not? Razz

Nintendo's three regions don't talk to each other at all, so they might not know.
