This is the award every publisher wants to win, the Ultimate Game The Year award. If you pick this one up, you've made a really good game. In the nominations were giants such as Fallout 3, Call of Duty World at War, Left 4 Dead, Grand Theft Auto, IV and Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots. See - them's some big guns.
But there can be only one. And the golden gong went to... Fallout 3 and Bethesda.

Congratulations Bethesda. A lovingly crafted rendition of the "Fallout" universe with painstaking attention to it's lore and details - no mean feat in and of itself. Personally I found the game initially intriguing, yet as time went by it became increasingly dull with the occassional highlight.
I look forward to (or rather, I hope it's in the works,) "Elder Scrolls 5".
well deserved in my mind, definately my favourite game of this year. the first one that actually had a proper moral dilema in it too. Fair enough it wasn't untill the dlc came out but still. the pit was definately the best moral poser in a game. ever.
There should be a clear distinction between the main game vs. the main game with DLC content, IMO. Otherwise it distorts the premises involved. I personally have not purchased "FO3" DLC and I have no intention of doing such. Perhaps if I did I might find my current "final verdict" on "FO3" changed, which is the whole point.
Fair result, I suppose, seeing as PC, PS3 and 360 owners have been able to enjoy it in unison.
I thought it was decent at times, with plenty of scope for adventuring. However, I do prefer the Elder Scrolls games as they tend to have more variety in the environments. And more Unicorns.
Still, well done Bethesda. And at least it wasn't Call of Bloody Duty...
Congrats Bethesda! Even though I have gotten tired of the game (esp the colour palette), this is the game (alongside gtaIV+dlc's) that have stolen most hours from me this year. Many many hours. Really liked the attention to details in the stuff you could find.
I presume you've decided to grace me with your unique brand of charm yet again, Ted. Since we have already established your level of wit in another thread, allow me to point out that there is a difference between being a "cheap skate" and not being interested in a game's DLC. The distinction may seem revolutionary to one of your ilk, but rest assured it is not unheard of.
Excellent result, I always said when posting about this that it was GOTY material IMO. Grats Bethesda and all involved in making it.
I too have not purchased any of the DLC/extra content as it does come in disc form too I believe. Was waiting/hoping they all got realeased on one disc but as good as the game is I do not want to buy it again in it's GOTY edition.

Could you be any more up yer own bottom? or sound any camper? "ilk" and using a coma just before you print someones name makes you sound like a crap Bond villain. Oh, and the little laughing face thingy doesn't go with sarcasm, you might want to try a instead.

Is that the waahambulance I hear? It's quite simple, Ted: If you can't handle a fight then don't start one. Rudimentary logic that even you should be able to grasp. Now kindly go stick it, you daft Neanderthal.
I dont think game of the year awards should go out to multi platform releases. Maybe a little harsh but there you go. votes can tip either way towards fifa or cod because of franchise power but the actual exclusives for either console is where the real war is won or lost.

Do you know how ridiculous that sounds? Especially the part about how a console war is won, when these votes include PC gaming too. I for one am glad a multi-format game won this title(more of a bonus because I agree with the chosen winner) it stops idiots posting my "platform" is better than your platform shit that usually graces these forums.
The people voted the winner was chosen and thats that, yes I partly agree about the Fifa/CoD sentiment, but if thats what people are playing and enjoying and want to vote for then theres nothing that can be done about that.
Out of interest what title was GOTY in your opinion?
My game of the year this year would probably be xbox360 gears2 - ps3 mgs4 and pc ..... I only play guildwars on it so that would be that. Multi platform would probably be Dead space or world at war or resi 5 its a tough one. I still think multi platforms should have own catagory. Think what you like I don't really care As for Fallout 3 I can see the attraction but sadly this game didn't grab me by the balls. I got as far as finding the museum for the broken radio antenna or whatever it was then interest died for me. Next years goty will likely be uncharted2 to for me at least but MW2 will probably get it none the less.
I could never get into fallout 3. I hear nothing but great things about it so im sure it deserves this award. I feel like im missing out on something. Oh well, I will get my action/rpg fix with Mass Effect 2

What would you say are the pros and cons of "Guild Wars"? I've been eying an all-in-one pack at a decent price recently, but would like to read the first hand experiences of someone whom is a veteran. Thanks in advance.

I was an early enthusiast of "FO3" and being a veteran of both "FO1 & 2" I could hardly wait. Initially it was good, but as time went by it became more of a chore than fun which is not a positive thing in my book where it pertains to games. IMO, "Mass Effect" is far superior to "Fallout 3", and by the looks of things "Mass Effect 2" isn't going to drop the ball, so I think you'll get your fix.

Fair enough a better put post than the initial posting of "no multi-format game should be GOTY because that is not how the console war is won" and I dont care whether you care or not just sounds ridiculous to me anyway . So there should be 2 ultimate GOTY categories then, 1 for Multi plat and one that is an exclusive to a particular platform (not just consoles )category?
pro's of GW is that when your new to it there is plenty to do. But after a while and you did all you think you can do you find the samey samey events get irritating and a majority of the community can be a bit eliteist and up their own backsides. But I mostly log in to talk to friends I've made over the years and help out with the odd mission or quest. Runes of magic is another mmorpg I have played. It has some pretty good ideas but the grinding does let it down a bit.
As for one trying to be a smart ass about my initial posting of my oppinion. Give it up already your not funny or clever about the whole "trying" to ridicule it thing your just coming off as anoying. Notice your the only one that said something against it? Means only you care about it..... its just a comment let it go already.

Fight? What planet are you on? Seriously, that's the saddest thing I've read on this site so far. And what's a "waahambulance", is that something they have at your institution?
PS, trying to sound smart but saying stupid things does not make you look good.
I believe (and I may be wrong) that a waahaambulance is what Andrew Ridgeley has been driving for a living since George Michael went solo. I've always thought it sad that he didn't wake Ridgeley up before he went-went.

Is that really the best you could come up with over the weekend, Ted? Nothing short of pathetic, especially the latter bit, although that part does fit you to a "T". That bit at least was amusing.

Why are you quoting a capital t? Are quote marks(" something else you don't understand? As for the old "Is that really the best you could come up with" line, really, your not still in junior school, are you? If you can't raise your game KFD then I'm off(where's that mark character?).
PS, quoting things that haven't been said is an early sign of being bonkers in the knut, true story.

"Raising my game" for you, Ted, would imply that we are equally matched on this occasion. There is little to indicate that is the case at present time. Do feel free to try and outmaneuver me if you think you are up to the task. It may prove amusing if nothing else.

True, we are clearly unmatched in this battle of wits, mostly due of course to you being completely unarmed. But do keep trying anyway, as I'm sure you'll be getting some sort of secret thrill out of it.

Your response is precisely the one I had anticipated. Well done! Who is the bigger fool? The fool or the one who follows him?
Now before you answer that question, I'll grant you this small favour: I haven't expressly stated whom is the fool, and I can assure you that there is nothing about you that entices me to follow. But wait! If I were to be the aforementioned fool, what would that make you? Figure the rest of it out on your own. After all, with your self-professed "wit" that shouldn't prove problematic at all, now should it?...
