From action packed thrillers to a little something for the kids, there will be a host of fantastic films that all the family are sure to enjoy, some of which include: Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs, Hannah Montana: The Movie, Bruno, Angels & Demons, Casino Royale, Crank 2: High Voltage and The Hills Have Eyes.
The service will allow movie fans to download the latest releases straight to their PlayStation3 (PS3) and PSP (PlayStationPortable) for viewing at home or on the go from this November in France, Germany, Spain and the UK with other markets to follow in 2010.
The video store will offer high quality entertainment, available to buy or to rent, from major movie studios including 20th Century Fox, Disney-ABC-ESPN Television1, Lionsgate2, Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Studios Inc. (MGM), Paramount Pictures, Sony Pictures, Starz Media2, Universal, and Warner Bros. In additional, a number of local studios will be announced closer to launch.
Excellent, what with this and the 500 odd movies i can get for free from the SkyPlayer and the rentals on 360 i'll have a wealth of choice for when there's bugger all on tele.
You so added the pricing details to follow just now.
Thing is, for me the price is key. Any more than 3€ a film for rent then its a waste of time.
Plus, if the HD films are more than 4GB and you cant transfer them to an external HDD, then I wont be buying any either.
These are the key points for me, but still looking forward to it. along with the Spanish I players that are also due this month "In theory". As I cant access the BBC one from outside the UK
Personally with experience of BT Visions 'HD' offering, i am slightly dubious, yes the resolution will be there, but if the bit rate is < a DVD whats the point?
Id rather see huge HD downloads that I can queue up a few days in advance and get the quality, than small DL's and awful quality.
this sounds kool, very useful and entertaining but its not needed for me because i download movies off the net anyway! hope the users don't get ripped off with prices though
How much? How much? How much? How much? How much? How much? How much? How much? How much?
Can get pretty good deals from Love Film and Blockbuster these days, with Blu Rays delivered straight to your house. This is the price point they will have to come in under to make this a success. Also my ISP gets funny about download limits during daytime hours, how would downloading an HD movie say on a Saturday or Sunday afternoon affect this?

Will there be an anime service on the EU store? I know there was one on the US one but obviously it isn't as popular in the UK. Or will I have to continue buying Hong Kong and Region 1 DVDs?
I bet the price will be too high. And downloading HD movies on the pitiful 40gb hard drive is a bit of a problem. I bet I can't even transfer it on a USB stick to be burned on a DVD/BR. If I pay for it, I want to own it physically.
If that's not a streaming service, it's gonna take me days to download gigabytes worth of HD material with the sorry DSL connections we have here. It's going to be faster ordering the movies thru mail. And I bet the price won't differ much either.
Digital download movie sales/rentals are a big joke.
I brought play tv when it came out. Brilliant i thought but within a week id filled up my hdd (its about just over half a gig per half hour show in SD!) So i went out and brought a 260GB hdd and within 6 months ive filled that plus you cant play PLAY TV content on your psp without first converting it into another file using psp video 9 which is just stupid. Im currently sourcing the films ive recorded off tv from stagevu which should in theory free up about 2/3rds of my hdd and be able to play them on my psp to boot. The only saving grace for play tv is when i go to visit my gf parents in Norway i can watch british tv.....now if there was only something id miss lol
If I can rent HD films cheaper than Blockbuster then I am sold provided the selection is good which, judging by the list of partnership deals, it should be.
Do you 'buy' these games as oppose to 'rent' them like you do on 360? Because if so I can see there being a chance of this being more successful. Though what both companies should do is give the option for both buying and renting movies.

Looks like you can do both with the PS3 version. Rent or buy in HD or SD.
