Wii Zelda: MotionPlus improves swordplay

Miyamoto details use of MotionPlus in secret Zelda project
Little-to-nothing is known about the Zelda game Shigeru Miyamoto and his team are working on, except for the fact that it'll use the Wii MotionPlus peripheral.

Speaking during a recent Q&A session, Miyamoto said: "We're using MotionPlus to make you feel much more like you're actually fighting while holding a sword in your hand."

He also claimed that MotionPlus would help the targeting system. "In the previous game, you aimed at things by pointing at the screen, but this time we'll use MotionPlus to create a much more convenient targeting system and a more pleasurable playing experience," he said.

In other Ninty news, Nintendo Official Magazine's podcast is flying up the charts on iTunes. You should check it out right here. It's got verdicts on New Super Mario Bros. Wii, answers to some reader questions and a competition to win Mario & Sonic At The Olympic Winter Games.

This is going to rock, looks like I can stop worrying about it being as bad as twilight princess.

If it turns out to be "Link's Sword training" then there is going to be trouble! Mad

Bad as Twilight Princess is there something wrong with you? That game was great with cool little touches that brought the environments to life.

OK so we have the swordplay for Zelda confirmed... I am greedy. I want to know about the other features also that will be used wwith MP... This has the potential to be the greatest Zelda ever. Lets see if it beats A Link to the Past!

"a much more convenient targeting system" doesn't actually fill me with confidence. If it locks you into one-on-one combat then it's going to feel like you've been hamstrung.

Hopefully it'll just be a button to toggle a locked target then you can swing to your heart's content. Would be even cooler if you had to use the sword movements to parry and riposte too.

I found the dungeon design left a lot to be desired, a lot of the puzzles were lifted from older games, it was far to easy to, and there was a huge lack of good sidequests, there are more flaws but those are the main ones.

What would be a nice touch is using the wiimote for the sword and the nunchuck for the shield to parry. Would probably work best in 1 on 1 fighting though
erimus365 on 4 Nov '09
they sort of tried doing that in TP if i remember rightly. although you only used the nunchuck for doing shield bashing it worked quite well. considering the movements of the shield are only ever going to be fairly rudimentary, thats a brilliant idea.

I want to know how M+ is going to affect the hookshot boomerand and archary though. the sword fighting was a given really.
