Microsoft has told CVG it has "nothing to announce" on a public rollout of the Xbox Live Rewards pilot program.
The program - which rewards loyal 360 users with Microsoft Points - partially launched yesterday on Xbox Live, but is currently accessible via invite only.
A Microsoft spokesperson said: "The Xbox Live Rewards Web site is part of a pilot program we're testing with a small group from our global Xbox Live community. We are always exploring new ways to provide the most value to our members, but have nothing to announce about a public program at this time."
Once enrolled in the Rewards program Xbox Live users can receive 200 MS Points for purchasing a 12 Month Gold or Netflix subscription, 100 free MS Points for participating in a survey or making a debut Xbox Live purchase and more.

Loyalty? What a laugh.. this is nothing more than a business strategy to get people spending more money. How about Microsoft be loyal to its consumers and scrap the Gold Membership nonsense. I've paid for Xbox games that have multiplayer elements, yet I have to pay £40 to unlock this. Remind me what I'm actually getting for this £40 again? I've bought the game, I've bought the console, I'm paying for the broadband connection... I will always remain a Silver member, which restricts what games I buy (if any), and why you'll find me spending 95% of my time on my PS3. I haven't bought a single piece of DLC off Live, but I have on PSN.
When buying a new game, PS3 is default because of this.

its a nice idea. But i'm not sure how much of an impact this'll have on people that do reguly use the live service. I'm going to reserve judgement untill more details are revealed.
Its not quite as generous as the wii rewards scheme for getting people online but still, how many people know 20 people that aren't online with thier wii in order to be able to download every nintendo game in the shop channel for free?
I don't understand the pointless outrage though. Surely being given something for doing what most people usually do anyway as apposed to the nothing we are getting at the moment is a good thing no?
Then again, how many people with a 360 acctually pay £40 a year for live. If you go online you can get one for as little as £25-30 in some places.
I didn't spew pointless outrage... it was neither pointless or outrage... it was cynicism behind this whole idea. This is simply a business strategy to gain more money.
Why not just reduce everything in price, equivalent to the MS point reward?
No, incentivise your consumers, they'll spend more, profit goes up.
This is simply an observation. This is a money making scheme, nothing more.
