Just when we thought the world of gaming couldn't get any busier, someone's seemingly gone and leaked screenshots and details for Bungie's Halo Reach.
These tantalising off-screen snaps, which appeared on the NeoGAF forums, show the next Halo with new weapons, environments and features on show.
A man on the internet who claims to have leaked the snaps from an internal beta posted: "Overall gameplay was about the same as the other Halos... They made me play through the first 3 missions. The first mission was on a pretty big map, and I had to find other spartans on the map (similar to Halo 1's second stage where you have to find the crash landed marines).
"Second stage was pretty action packed, main goal was to take control of several huge missile guns throughout the map, and provide coverage to a spartan that would hack into the guns and control them.
"Third stage was very similar to Halo 1's 3rd stage, Truth and Reconciliation. You start with a sniper and cloaking perk, you sneak into an enemy base at night, and you shoot from cliffs."
One new weapon to be seen is said to be a Covenant equivalent of the Spartan Laser, which fires deadly pink needles at the victim and explodes when three are hit. Another is the return of the Battle Rifle, now said to be tuned to single shots and 12 rounds.
The leaked shots also show health and details for your Spartan teammates on the HUD. This is said to be bolstered by a Call of Duty-style perk system, which includes sprinting (hold LB to run), cloaking and halogram (drop an Arnie-style hologram decoy) abilities.
The shots look convincing and Bungie's started banning anyone who even mentions them on its official forums, which surely adds weight to their legitimacy.
Microsoft's said it doesn't comment on rumour or speculation. We'll let you know if anything more comes from this.

I dont know if these shots are real or not but with the Game due to drop next Fall surely we should start seeing 'official' screenshots pretty soon. Hell the Beta for Reach is supposed to be happening early next year.
If this is Bungies last Halo? I expect them to go out with a bang!
Correct me if I'm wrong, but screen 4 could be the Unyielding Hierophant space station from 'First Strike' which is the novel set after the fall of reach...
Those screen shots sure look real, and look brilliant! That's so funny, it would of taken Bungie about 29 months to release one screen shot, somebody comes along and releases 7!

If these shots are real... ooohhh baby!
It does look like they're in space. However, the Master Chief led a team into the space dock during the fall of Reach, so it could be that.
The shots do look pretty good, I guess we'll find out if there's any truth to them on the Beta!

I reckon we'll be controlling all of the 5 or 6 Spartans that were silhouetted on the the teaser. Probably one of the features they said they'd carry over from ODST.
s**t quality screenshots which I'm sure won't be in anyway representative of the finished product...positive it's going to be very special when it does arrive though!

SPOILER ALERT....
Totally agree... I was mainly looking at screen 4 which looks like the internal structures of the Hierophant describrd in the novel... where they encounter the Brutes for the first time and Grace is killed.

Ah rite. I'm reading first strike now, but I'm not that far into it yet. Sounds like a good read tho!
Here we go! Saw these screens last night- I'm giglling like a schoolgirl with excitement all over again. If these ARE real it looks like they're going with a more washed out colour palette- has a more realistic flavour to it- but it still has that Halo look to it. Awesome stuff!
ODST will be keeping me happy until the Beta though. Still, cannae wait!
Does anyone else think that it is a bit of a coincidence that these shots get "leaked" less than a week before the biggest FPS release this year?
Even if these weren't leaked as part of a publicity stunt, I think their exposure is going to accelerate the release of proper screenies.
I dont think this would have been part of Bungies or MS's plans, even though the Monster that is MW2 is releasing next week.
Bungie are one of the most guarded Devs out there and they plan everything down to the very last detail, releasing these blurry shots goes against pretty much everything they have done in the past.
I hope you are right though and that its pushed both MS and Bungie into releasing some proper screenshots (that we can hopefully all drool over).

Oops... sorry man, hope I did not drop a few spoilers there. Error rectified, but yeh, excellent read mate. Looking forward to getting Onyx once I have finished my current reads
Actually, does anyone here subscribe to Edge? Im sure I read online that there November issue was going to be previewing Reach, then again I may have gotten that completley wrong and its just wishful thinking .

I remember that now. Whilst it never had the title, the image looked like the planet in the trailer. Even though I'm hyped to see it, I'm also hoping they don't reveal anything until the next E3 at the earliest, as the long wait until release will do my head in!
Yes, these are definitely real since in Bungie's latest Weekly Update they talk a lot about their internal beta testing or whatever and these screenshots have come from one of the people doing the testing as stated by CVG.
The games looks awesome, I'm liking the look of the new Battle Rifle very much.
I have this teeny-tiny little switch on the side of my mobile phone, and when I flick it the camera turns into a video camera. As a rough guess, 90% of folks with mobile phones have the same feature. So with that thought in mind, I'd just like to ask our spy friend here one question:
WHY DIDN'T YOU FILM THE BLOODY THING, YOU NIT-WIT?!
As slick as the Halo gameplay is, and as clever as the enemy AI is, and despite the fact that I'm a Halo fan...
anyone else getting really bored of the same villians and weaponry?
Or the alien dialogue being truly awful?
Grunts are possibly one of the worst video game characters ever to feature in a hit series.
There's less and less things satisfying about playing a new Halo game, other than sticky grenades which are always worth a laugh and sniper rifles.
I want to see sinister, sneaky and downright callous and evil opposition in Halo Reach. I doubt it'll happen.
I think that the grunts are easy targets for abuse, but add a lot to the game - especially the later games.
Yes their voices are annoying, but some of their dialogue is great - such as killing one and hearing another shout out "he was my brother!" or simply their cry of "giant jerk!" as you gun them down. It's that mix of dead serious horror themes with that occasional lightheartedness that makes Halo great.
Gameplay wise ODST wouldn't have been nearly as entertaining if you couldn't run through the game getting headshot after headshot. And is there much more satisfying than beating down a grunt with one smack of your rifle?
Killing a grunt with the back end of a needler that you've just emptied into a brute's face is definitely fun after a long day at the office.
However, dare I say it (as a committed Halo fan), that it has become rather staid of late. I relished the opportunity to wipe out the new engineer characters in ODST (I know, I know, they were in Halo Wars, so they weren't exactly new), only to learn subsequently that I shouldn't have shot any of them.
To clarify: Bungie introduced a new type of baddie into its FPS game that you WEREN'T supposed to kill.
The Brutes were cool, but they were introduced in Halo 2. And surely, nobody really considers the Jackals to be a personal highlight.
Seriously, some new villains wouldn't go amiss. Just not the bloomin' Flood. No one likes the Flood. The best part about ODST was that the Flood weren't in it. Well, that and the laid-back dinner jazz...

You spoke too soon! I'm a big fan of The Flood, but I will admit it was nice to have a breather.

They won't be in Reach either, by all accounts.
Yeah, can't see them fitting into that story. I'm hoping for more Forerunner revelations personally.
Obviously not seen through the eyes of MC, but maybe one or more of the other Spartans.
Lost track of the whole Halo story a while ago but from what I remember the Flood couldn't appear in Reach. Not unless the whole Halo story was rejigged. During Reach the Flood were locked in the first Halo vault. If the Flood are to appear in any Halo off shoot then the story would have to be set after the first Halo game.

No worries dude. You can't really say someone telling u a Spartan dies is much of a spoiler anyway. Ghosts of Onyx sounds amazing!
I can't see how they'd write the flood into this one either! If they wer on reach, I'm pretty sure the humans would have known about it a long time before they trained the Spartans there!
People keep talking bout them not introducing new enemies! Personally, I think it would be pretty hard to do conisidering all but one of the halo games takes place within a three month timeframe! After all, if you have troops, why not send them into battle with everyone else! And the very nature of the covenant prevents an alliance with another race!

Well they did manage to do it in Halo Wars which was set 20? years before the events in Halo (the "first" discovery of the Flood).
That adheres to the canon though, because the crew of the Spirit of Fire in Halo Wars used their reactor to destroy the planet with the Flood on, meaning it would take them years to get back to Earth. By the events of Halo 3 they still hadn't returned to tell the tale.
Anyone wanting to gun down new baddies may be catered for- as perhaps part of the game has you dealing with the 'innies' aka the insurrectionists as well as the Covenant. Imagine that a Halo game where you blast humans and aliens.

Like I said it's been a while since I took an interest in Halo and haven't played either Wars or OSDT but I'd be surprised if the Flood appeared in Reach.
