Modern Warfare 2 on sale in US?

Gamestop breaks street date
Modern Warfare 2 seemingly went on sale in North America this weekend, as retailer Gamestop purposely broke the November 10 street date.

In a statement, the retailer said: "This past weekend, GameStop made the decision to break street date and sell reserved copies of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 in select markets where other retailers had broken street date.

"Our decision followed many conversations with Activision and was an effort to protect our customer base," it said.

Stores in Bowie, Md., Bowling Green, Ohio, Reading, Pa., and New York City are known to have flogged the Infinity Ward shooter early.

Activision said it did not give Gamestop permission to break the global street date. "Activision has not given any retailer permission to sell Modern Warfare 2 prior to the Nov. 10 street date. The company fully supports the Nov. 10 street date," it said in a statement.

Modern Warfare 2 officially goes on sale from midnight tonight. Look for our review first thing in the morning, thanks to a crazy embargo.

mine is "out for delivery" with Parcel Force, meaning that its in van on the way to my door today. It's from game.co.uk so they are breaking the street date too

The biggest crime is the Activisc**ts not allowing reviews till release.

Same here pre-ordered from game, tracked the parcel should be here in a couple of hours,
Can't bloody wait.

I picked my copy up Saturday from a local retailer. Wow what a game! I'm up to level 29 on multiplayer, and can't stop playing it. I was tempted to pull a sickie today, but i've got too much to do in work at the mo.

Interesting how there are no reviews out. Considering how amazing the game is supposed to be you would think they would be jumping to have the reviews out there!

Sending pre-orders out early isn't breaking the street date... They send them out (such as the Parcel Force ones) early in case delivery takes an extra day (though usually it doesn't). They aren't selling copies in store.

However, Gamestop (which is a shop) selling copies in store early is breaking the street date...

Parcel force has delivered mine but when you enter the CD key it won't activate as it's before the release date

My 360 Prestige edition has just arrived by parcelforce. Poor control freak Activision, you're cunning plan has been foiled...

I dont mind people getting the game early, all the power to em...jammy gets lol. just hope they still reset the leader boards so we all have a level playing field come midnight. Though i cant see how they could do that what timezones and all but dont like the sound of people being so far ahead pre official launch. Maybe breaking the rules dose pay after all Laughing
moss66 on 9 Nov '09
the boards reset at midnight in all areas to coinsde with the release, so people will have a "headstart" but because the game is released tonight nothing can be done! so people in the uk will have a headstart over america, get in lol
