Medal of Honor modern combat will "revitalise" series

EA confirms plans to revamp WWII shooter
EA has confirmed it plans to "revitalise" its more successful "core IP" including the Medal of Honor series, EA Games boss Frank Gibeau said this morning.

And - as we already know - the way the publisher plans to give the Medal of Honor series a boost is by following in Call of Duty's lead with its own Modern Combat game.

Last month an ex-employee's CV pointed to "a Medal of Honor modern combat title" as past work experience.

Earlier than that, a leaked questionnaire talked up "Medal of Honor: Operation Anaconda", supposedly set during the 2002 operation of the same name.

Basically, it's real. Read all the supposed details in last year's Medal of Honor: Operation Anaconda leak.

A few years ago everyone complained about the deluge and saturation of WWII Games, whats the betting we have the same grievences about 'Modern Combat / Warfare' Games in a year or two from now Laughing ?

One sentence

Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 who cares about this series anymore, rubbish Laughing

I care. While the details remain sketchy so far, I'm at least willing to wait and read/hear more about what EA might be able to bring to the table with this venture. I wouldn't mind direct competition with the "Call of Duty" franchise providing EA treats its customers better than Activision.

Always preferred the CoD franchise to the MoH one anyway, so this isn't going to change my mind much.

Don't know why they're hopping on a bandwagon though, rather than going in a direction nobody else is doing. There must be other options than WW2 or present-day Middle East that would make great shooters.

I'm not ruling it out. I mean COD4 was basically a rip of Delta Force - Black hawk down. MW2 is just a revamp of COD4. Just some people are too blind and ignorant to see it. Most simply don't remember the game Laughing MW2 is a good game but its fan-effin-tastic.

MoHAA defined the WWII shooter as we know it today. If it wasn't for MoH, there would be no CoD.

So I certainly care.

Don't EA do Battlefield?? Surely the Bad Company games are exactly MOH evolved?

Me thinks you are the blind and ignorant one here pal, are you one of these people that fail to grasp the concept of what a sequel means?, MW2 is a direct sequel to CoD4 based 5 years after the end of the first MW so how can you expect it to be a completely different game?.

As the saying goes dont fix what isnt broken, and CoD4 was a defining game and so will MW2.

i care too!
the COD series is good but i grew up with the MOH series (PS1/2)! MOH: Frontline is the best one in the series imho, it went downhill after that!

As a fan of modern combat first-person shooters, I'm more than happy to hear about this. For me there can't be enough choice in this genre.

What's important is that EA play and learn from the crop of current and recent past titles of modern combat games. There's a lot right with MW2, but there's still room for improvement. As the Modern Warfare series has become about perks, I'd like to see a different kind of customised character style modern shooter.

The RPG game style of specialisation through stats could easily be incorporated into a modern combat game without being over the top. With specialisation for specific weapons making those you're proficient in more accurate and those not, less accurate, for example. I'd like to see more of the Rainbow Six physical customisation too. Doesn't have to be any more than face, height and build, but it's a feature that's often popular with gamers.

A feature of the Modern Warfare series that Medal of Honour certainly needs to adopt is with the variety of locations, in both single and multiplayer games. If EA develop this with the same attitude as they had with FIFA – that was to become the market leader, the best in the genre (and some would say they managed) – then this new game should be pretty good by all rights. It may not end up as good as Modern Warfare, but it should easily be better than the abortion that was Operation Flashpoint.

They could do worse than look to their roots. The original MOH on PS was a fantastic blend of action and story. Kind of reminded me of a sort of Spielberg-movie-esq WW2 scenario, a bit fantastical with great set-pieces and lots of atmosphere. Grittiness and authenticity have their place, but sometimes some escapism is just the ticket
