Resi 5: Alternative Edition coming as DLC

...instead of a standalone disc, thanks to the voting fans
The extra content included in the new Resident Evil 5: Alternative Edition will be released in UK and US as downloadable content, Capcom has confirmed.

RE5: Alternative Edition will arrive in Japan as a full retail disc, but Capcom opted for the DLC route in the west after putting the decision to the fans via a pole on its official site. Almost 1500 out of just under 2400 votes opted for DLC delivery.

"You will not be asked to purchase a new copy of the game just to get at the new stuff, just make sure to hold on to your RE5 disc and you'll be ready to roll in Spring 2010 when we make available new Resident Evil adventures (and some other things we haven't told you about yet) for you," said Capcom.

The Alternative Edition includes a new mission called Lost in Nightmares, in which Chris Redfield and Jill Valentine explore a dark mansion - reminiscent of the original game. And it looks bloody awesome.

The PS3 version will also boast support for Sony's new motion control wands due for release next Spring.

so, Capcom is saying that because of 1500 unmentionable individuals, that this will only be available as DLC for us?

What these 'fans' have done is make sure that the microsoft store and the psn store are the only outlets for this game.

meaning no price competition, no discounts (ever!), no second hand versions. i realise its the obvious choice for capcom, they get to make a HUGE profit from day 1 with virtually no ongoing product costs. But for us customers it really stinks!

The one chance we customers get a proper say in something and we hand over our wallets. And us UKers always get the proverbial shaft when it comes to the pricing on the psn and ms stores.

those 1500 would be RUBBISH at monopoly!

lmao, so you'd rather buy a second copy of the game? Confused
YCshinobi on 10 Nov '09
In a pole, eh CVG? Is that a voting envelope on a stick then? Coz I thought Capcom had a poll.

Will be keen to see what this includes. I enjoyed Res5, might go back to it if they don't take the p**s with the pricing compared to the content.

yes of course we are handing over our wallets. No wait, rather than making us all pay another 30 odd quid for the new edition of the game Capcom are instead going to put it up over live and psn for closer to Ł10,

Last time i checked that was gamers doing the opposite. then again i guess you enjoy paying Ł40 a year for the latest (insert sports game with minor improvements here).

lmao lmao indeed!

You really haven't thought these complaints through.

I got a copy of RE5 in great condition for Ł10.60 on eBay the other day. I can enjoy that now and get the DLC when it comes out, and I'll probably have only spent Ł25.

By the time the DLC comes out, the original disc will probably be dirt cheap too, even new. So nobody really needs to pay full whack for this do they?

....And it is especially cool news for those, like me, who haven't even tried the game yet. I am particularly interested in the use of motion control for the PS3 version. RE4 for the Wii worked really well with the wiimote, so it could be a winner.
Mark240473 on 10 Nov '09
if the motion control on the PS3 works half as well as it did on RE$ on the wii, i'll definately be tempted to trade in my 360 copy for the PS3 one.
WHERESMYMONKEY on 10 Nov '09
I understand that this will provide a cheaper outlook to consumers as DLC. But I for one would much prefer the option to purchase it as a retail copy. I'm a big collector of Resident Evil merchandise and would've like this to stack against my other resi games. Despite it costing me more I would have been more than happy to pay for it.

Same here! Very Happy

Well done to capcom on this can't wait for the DLC!!!

I love this game but there is no way I'm paying for the DL which is going to most likely be expensive.

They should release a disk version with only the bonus content.

How would a disc version be any less expensive than DLC? Considering they would never to cover the expense of the disc and packaging, it would more than likely be more expensive.

I hope they expanded the mercenaries mode, so much fun with DUO. Should be available in dlc and disc, either way can't wait for this!
Ghostface_K on 11 Nov '09
You guys are idiots, DLC is the best way forward. I own the game, but don't want to have to buy the DLC as part of a physical package. It probably won't be cheap, but the retail box will probably cost more anyway. I voted in favour of the DLC, so there.

The disk would cost more but I wouldn’t mind paying more as I like to have a physical copy and I could sell it later.

Personally I just refuse to pay anything more than Ł10 for downloads. Smile
