Metroid Prime: "it's not over"

Iconic series heads to DS and DSi?
Metroid Prime 3: Corruption may not be the last game in the Metroid Prime series, Nintendo's Kensuke Tanabe has told our colleagues over at Official Nintendo Magazine.

With new title Other M for Wii on the way in 2010, some Nintendo fans may have been tempted to think the Prime series was done and dusted.

Not so according to Kensuke Tanabe, who told ONM the series still has a future.

Asked whether Samus will ever return to DS, Tanabe (who oversaw Retro Studios' series for Nintendo) said "We are always planning to make new games in the Metroid Prime series. Depending on the timing and the situation, we cannot deny the possibility of realising it on DS or DSi."

Kensuke Tanabe discusses the making of Metroid Prime Trilogy in issue 50 of Official Nintendo Magazine which is on sale from Friday 20 November.

Let us know what you think of Prime's handheld prospects in the comments field below.

If its Hunters 2 then I'm not buying it.

Make it a 2D side-scroller please!

Yeah, the Prime game on the DS was a little off the mark. The DS can do 3D but a game like New Mario Bros or Other M would be preferred

Just tell us what Retro are doing now!!

I enjoyed Hunters up to a point, but you ended up with numb claws for hands because it was so crippling to play for any length of time.

I agree with others here. 2D is the way to go for DS. - It's amazing how fresh and up-to-date Super Metroid still feels and plays on VC. - Let's have more of the same.

Secondly, I'd love to see Retro Studios apply their skill and tech to a different Nintendo franchise. They've taken Metroid Prime as far as it could go. - I'd imagine they could do wonders with Star Fox. I'd even trust them with my beloved Zelda.

No, I don't think handheld is the way to go. Perhaps forge a new series in 2d on the DS, but carry on the spectacle that is Prime on the home console.
